Show Preview: Slow Magic @ the Showbox, Fri. 12/11

“Music by your imaginary friend.” That’s how the mysterious Slow Magic describes his songs. I love/hate to report that the electronic artist has sold out the Showbox as of today, but as always, keep checking the event page just in case! If you are lucky enough to have your ticket, reflect on these facts:

1. This is badass drumming.
2. This is badass electronic music.
3. This is all done while wearing a neon animal mask.

Since Slow Magic is a neon beast playing drums, there’s a strange component to the show. But that weirdness is awesome. The songs elevate you with their dreaminess and, naturally, their magic. Be weird and magical with the tunes.

Photos: Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & the Conspirators @ the Moore

In October, Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & the Conspirators vigorously rocked the Moore Theatre! The World on Fire Tour, based on the project’s album World on Fire, gave Seattle a chance to hear the hard rockers live. Live! In action! Slash and Alter Bridge’s Myles Kennedy have made two albums together, and if you are lucky and happen to be in Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve this year, you can catch them at House of Blues. . .

Photos: Ellee Duke @ Emerald Queen Casino

Pop/country singer-songwriter Ellee Duke opened for LeAnn Rimes at the Emerald Queen Casino last week. The stop in Tacoma was near the midpoint in their Today Is Christmas Tour. Ellee grew up in Utah and has since moved to Nashville to pursue her dream. She accepted a Songwriting/Artist development deal with Big Machine Music and is currently working on her debut album. With a beautiful voice, a knack for writing memorable songs, and loads of determination, the talented Ellee Duke is bound to make it big. Be sure to catch her the next time she plays in the Seattle area.

Photos: Natalie Prass @ Neumos

Natalie Prass and her band recently played at Neumos near the tail end of her US tour. Natalie was my “Best New Find” at SXSW in Austin this past March and I was thrilled to see her again in Seattle. She started her career as the keyboardist in Jenny Lewis’ band. Her self-titled debut album was released earlier this year and a new EP, Side by Side, is due out in a few weeks. During one song in her set, Natalie stepped off the stage and went out into the audience to perform. Nashville-based Promised Land Sound and Seattle artist Maiah Manser opened.

Photos: Tove Lo @ Showbox SoDo

Tove Lo is marvelous! The Swedish singer-songwriter visited Seattle on October 7th, and brought her first headlining tour, Queen of the Clouds, to her admirers. And we here at Back Beat Seattle are definitely admirers. We’re looking forward to catching Lo when she returns as the opener for Maroon 5 next October. Only 11 months away. . . All photos of the Seattle 2015 October date are by Casey Brevig. Thanks Casey!
