Indonesian singer-songwriter NIKI played a sold out show at the Showbox.  The popular R&B/pop artist and her three-member band performed numerous songs from her recently released Nicole album.  NIKI took a break during her set to Facetime and surprise her best friend on her birthday, with the audience in the background.  Fun fact … at 15, NIKI  was the opening act for Taylor Swift in Jakarta.  Los Angeles-based Paravi opened.

The Pacific Northwest’s own Bikini Kill plays the final date of their tour at Marymoor Park on September 17th. Original members Kathleen Hanna, Kathi Wilcox and Tori Vail – plus guest guitarist Sara Landeau -bring their Riot Grrrl culture to music and, well, their philosophy to the party. This makes Bikini Kill especially welcome in their hometown area, where the whole movement began. While they are beloved all over, the Pacific Northwest has a remaining affinity for punk and feminism: We’re Bikini Kill and we want Revolution Girl-style now! Tickets are available here.

Local singer-songwriter Annie J headlined at the High Dive.  She and her talented five-member band performed songs from her new EP, Get Back, as well as several covers.  Seattle artists Brittany Danielle and Natalie Mai Hall came onstage during one song to dance along with Annie. In addition to a great voice, Annie was equally skilled on the piano and flute.
