Photos and Review: The Melvins @ The ShowBox

Melvins

You may be dismayed to see three reviews of The Melvins but don’t be. They were so full of energy that it took three photographers to capture it. They took the stage like Attila The Hun took Rome. With Buzz Osborne (lead guitar) and Jarred Warren (Bass) leading the way, the two drummers (Dale Crover and Coady Willis) kept the crowd mesmerized with their perfect timing. I had never see The Melvins play before but I knew as soon as they started that I wasn’t going home until the end.

The Melvins play the Crocodile on September 25th. Do what it takes to see that show.

What’s better than two magnificent drummers playing different beats at the same time? Try three. All playing something different and yet sounding so awesome. This was part of went down at the Glitch Mob‘s recent show in Seattle, along with the fabulous multi-instrument talent of each band member. Screens were filled with way out footage of things like a praying mantis and shooting gas pumps in a sweet night I remember with major fondness. Their debut CD, Drink the Sea, is out now.

Videos: Hey Champ, Brandon Flowers, The Gaslight Anthem & The Strange Boys

Hey Champ appears in one of the funniest things I have seen in a long time: their video for “Neverest”. Just watch. I don’t want to ruin the surprise. The band appears at Capitol Hill Block Party on Sunday, July 25th (8 pm, Neumos stage).

Hey Champ

Brandon Flowers gets tied up in “Crossfire,” featuring Charlize Theron. Flowers makes a powerful argument for his solo work with his lyrics: You’re Keeping Secrets on Your Pillow. Why can’t I get over the Killers? Now they’re branching off and I am in trouble.

The Gaslight Anthem just released their video for “American Slang”. Enjoy:

Austin’s The Strange Boys have some bad luck but keep on dancing in “Be Brave”.
