Photos: HIM @ Showbox Sodo

I had the opportunity to shoot one of my favorite bands, HIM at the Showbox Sodo on April 17th, 2010. I never had seen HIM before and being a fan of their European work, this was a real treat for me. This was also my second show in the same week and also my first time with Back Beat Seattle. The show was fun and Ville Valo got the crowd going. The only thing that bothered me was the smoke/strobe mixture, but overall the show was very enjoyable.

Findlay Brown opened for Shelby Lynne on Tuesday night at the Triple Door. This looks like it was a fantastic venue for him and I want to say welcome to photographer Kirk Stauffer to the site. Kirk takes seriously nuanced and strong photos – here are some of his Findlay Brown shots.

Show Review & Photos: Basshunter @ the Cirque Event Center

Eurodance seems to have a big following in Seattle. Basshunter was at the Cirque Event Center on Friday night, and performed for a large crowd that hopped up and down to his songs through the entire set. The audience, on the young side and very enthusiastic, probably heard of him from the radio station,C89.5. Basshunter made a point of thanking the channel, one that I have listened to for a long time and I also love what they do – they have a great variety of special shows covering dance genres, and are a great resource for popular dance music. I also liked that Basshunter seemed to be genuinely enjoying himself, and that he sang in Swedish at times. He was here last year in June at a smaller venue, so I am expecting he should return soon at the next size up of venues in Seattle.

Review & Photos: The Ponys @ The Tractor

The Ponys Singer Close2

The Ponys fired on all cylinders for very appreciative fans at The Tractor. Jered, Melissa, Brian, and Nathan wowed the crowd with their punk-inspired rock that had the fans smiling and cheering every time a different song began.

Normally a band has one or two standouts who you remember after the show is over. Not so with The Ponys. Each member has their own distinctive style and they were really fun to watch. Diminutive Melissa on bass was more than a match for front man Jered Gummere. If you ever get a chance to see The Ponys…do it. They were billed as an Indie Garage band but that’s much too limiting for this charismatic band.

The Tractor
I’ve seen several shows at The Tractor in Ballard and it’s a wonderful place to see a show. As a fan it’s great because the owner allows anyone to bring in a camera to make their own memories. As a photographer it’s difficult because the lighting is quite low which really adds to the mood. If you bring your own camera, be prepared for very low light. These photos were taken from ISO 6400 to ISO 12,800.
