“Alice’s Restaurant,” of course you know “Alice’s Restaurant.” The man who wrote this wonder and others, Arlo Guthrie appeared at Broadway Center for the Performing Arts in Tacoma on April 14th. Technically I think it’s “Alice’s Restaurant Massacree,” but who’s quibbling? Guthrie has released numerous albums since he found success in music at just the young age of twenty (!), and wrote a children’s book, Mooses Come Walking, which was published in 2004. Matthew Lamb took these charming photos of Guthrie in Tacoma:

Photos: Justice @ the Paramount

While listening to Justice and watching their show at the Paramount last week, I was not sure what was happening. There were lights, flashing lights, pounding rhythms, inescapable sounds, and it was all awesome. A Justice show is an aural and visual onslaught, one that actually captures your imagination. Thank you, Justice, for morphing the Paramount into an electronic spaceship.

Show Review & Photos: Thomas Dolby with Aaron Jonah Lewis & Ben Belcher @ Showbox Market

The wonderfully charming Thomas Dolby brought his Time Capsule tour to Seattle’s Showbox on April 11th. Dolby performed a wide selection of songs from “One of Our Submarines” to “I Love You Goodbye” to his current pieces “The Toadlickers,” “Evil Twin Brother” and “Spice Train.” And naturally “She Blinded Me With Science.” Dolby told engaging the stories behind the songs, plus he had a troupe of dancers for “Spice Train.” For some of his recent songs Dolby has turned to Americana and some jazz. Though at first this might seem strange, it works. “I Love You Goodbye” from Astronauts & Heretics hinted at this. When you think of Dolby you probably think synth, but listen to his voice. He’s got a perfect voice.

Opening for Dolby was an entertaining Americana duo, Aaron Jonah Lewis and Ben Ben Belcher.
