Photos: Van Halen @ the Tacoma Dome

My favorite Van Halen song is most likely “Running with the Devil.” I took photos of the first three songs of Van Halen’s show on Saturday night at the Tacoma Dome and what did they play second? “Running with the Devil,” of course. So while I didn’t get to have my own little freak-out to that song when I got to my seat, I had the privilege of taking photos of this seminal band. I’m going to judge every person reading here – if you do not like at least one Van Halen song, you’re missing something. “Beautiful Girls,” “Unchained,” “Ain’t Talkin’ ’bout Love,” oh you know. A very fine moment during the show, next to the awesome drum and guitar solos, was David Lee Roth introducing “Ice Cream Man” by talking about his dog herding hobby. He likes dogs!

Video: “Burning Up” by Madonna

Madonna will play two shows in Seattle, one on October 2nd, the other on October 3rd. This will be the first time for many Seattleites to see her perform live, as she has not visited our city since her very first tour. To celebrate her arrival, I am featuring Madonna’s videos, along with a bit of commentary, every so often in this publication. Enjoy.

Ah, “Burning Up.” I still want to get my hair just like Madonna’s in this video. Those rubber bracelets have made a comeback. Also I think the chains in this video popularized the bondage theme in so many other bands’ videos. “You’re always closing the door/well that only makes me want you more,” the lyrics of this song are just great. Apparently the director of the video nearly got Madonna killed while making the video.

Continuing its roll of great shows, the Neptune hosted James Morrison and honeyhoney on April 29th. The British star Morrison opened his current tour, which should prominently feature his latest single, “One Life,” in Seattle. You have another chance to see honey honey when they hit Sasquatch! Music Festival on May 25th. Brilliant photos by Jason Tang follow:
