July 30th – the date the Cult and White Hills played Showbox SoDo – just doesn’t even seem like it was that far away, alas, summer has left us. Brits the Cult should have a new album out in 2014, while White Hills just finished a huge European tour. Thanks to photographer Steve Campagna for capturing shots of both bands in Seattle!
Photos: Bumbershoot w/ Superchunk, Redd Kross & Kinky
We’re stepping a little back into our time capsule for some photos of this year’s Bumbershoot festival. North Carolina’s Superchunk, a band with serious staying power, was just one of the acts Simon Krane ventured out to photograph. Also on his list? Redd Kross and Kinky, two other bands who have indeed withstood the music landscape.
Photos: Jessie Ware @ Neptune Theater
Soulful British R&B singer-songwriter Jessie Ware made a stop at the Neptune Theater last week during the west coast leg of her North American tour. Jessie mentioned that she’s constantly been on the road for the past year and will be taking some time off as soon as the tour is over in a few days. Dave Okumu, who produced Jessie’s debut album Devotion, opened with his band The Invisible, and later joined her on stage.
Show Preview: Kimie’ @ Showbox at the Market, Tues. 11/19
Sometimes everything just comes together right with a voice and the songs that voice joins. Exhibit A: Hawaiian singer/songwriter Kimie’, who’s in Seattle tomorrow night to open for the Green (she appeared on their album, The Green). The self-taught guitarist (she grabbed her dad’s guitar) has influences such as Barrington Levy, Amy Winehouse and Bob Marley, released her latest work, To the Sea this year. The optimistic artist, who said “There can always be something good to come out of the bad and I like finding beautiful surprises in things,” shares that view in her lovely music. So hit the Market early tomorrow, enjoy her mix of reggae, R&B and soul. Don’t miss her!

Photos: LIZ @ Neumos
LIZ, an awesome singer from California, was one of Charli XCX’s openers at Neumos. With two singles out already on Mad Decent (label of Diplo, Zeds Dead), her music recalls the good parts of all those ’90s popular R&B songs – for real. We want her back in Seattle!
