(Photos) American Idol Tour 2010 @ KeyArena

I have to be honest. I wasn’t a big American Idol fan, and never followed the show each season as most people do.  I never followed any of the prior seasons as I never understood what the big hype was. However, that all changed this year when my girlfriend and my former roommates got me hooked on it.

This also marked the first time shooting the last 3 songs (Lee Dewyze’s last two songs and the AI Medley featuring the top 10) as the norm of each show is to shoot the first 3 songs of each act. Overall, this was an enjoyable shoot and it was an honor to be able to shoot something this big. If you would ask me if I would shoot it next year? Absolutley!

Back Beat Seattle had its first show at the Comet on Friday night and I want to say thank you to the bands who played, to all the people who came to the event (we had some serious competition with Digable Planets across the street at Neumos) and to everyone at the Comet who made me very welcome, especially Michelle, who worked with me on getting the lineup together! We had four of Seattle’s best and most exciting bands: Wayfinders, Hotels, Katie Kate and Steel Tigers of Death. Hotels even dressed up as characters from Back to the Future, and Katie Kate performed with backup singers, Boomzzilla and Mad Rad‘s Terry Radjaw. Steel Tigers of Death stripped down into skimpy, shiny underpants and Wayfinders were total elegance.

Photos: Hercules and Love Affair, Cybertramp & DJ Colby B @ Neumos

Hercules and Love Affair were at Neumos last week and just spread all sorts of joy and excitement. The man behind it all, Andrew Butler was joined by singers Kim Ann Foxman, Aerea Negrot and Shaun J. Wright. Each singer brought unique presence and talent to all the songs. What a great treat it was to experience that high energy all night. Butler didn’t explain why he had a tampon (that’s what he said – he said it was a tampon) between his lips. Whatever the reason, it was definitely different. Anti-smoking device? I loved every bit of this show and am relieved to have seen them finally – and anxious to them again. Opening for Hercules and Love Affair was Cybertramp, a Seattle band and 2 DJs, who were totally enjoyable and did a fabulous cover of Supertramp’s “The Logical Song,” and Seattle’s soon-to-be New York’s equally fabulous DJ Colby B. Photos: Rob Thomas @ Snoqualmie Casino

Rob Thomas performed at Snoqualmie Casino on August 12th in a benefit for Sidewalk Angels Foundation. The Matchbox Twenty singer has released two solo CDs and works with his wife, Marisol Thomas on the Sidewalk Angels Foundation. The foundation helps people and animals – I think that’s awesome. Photographer Amy Elyse went to the Snoqualmie show and reports back with some outdoor shots:

Los Angeles, California’s the Watson Twins were headliners at the Triple Door on August 7th and were joined by fellow Californians Ferraby Lionheart and Kip Boardman. You can follow the Watson Twins on twitter, and Ferraby Lionheart returns to Seattle on September 30th at the Vera Project. Two of Back Beat Seattle’s photographers, Brittney Bush Bollay and Jason Tang, went to the recent show, and I am happy to share their work!
