Show Review & Photos: Walk the Moon w/ the Mowgli’s @ Showbox SoDo

Walk the Moon & the Mowgli’s @ Showbox, 10/23
Show Review & Photos by Heather Fitzpatrick

It had been nearly a year since Walk the Moon played in Seattle, and you could tell their fans were anxious to see them again. With faces painted, and hands stretched high, they welcomed Walk the Moon back to Showbox SoDo on October 23rd. Opening bands included Smallpools, who are signed to RCA – they’re from New Jersey and made their performing debut in July 2013) plus the Mowgli’s, an eight-piece band from California whose stage performance included an abundance of energy. They really got the crowd moving. Walk the Moon’s self-titled album was released last June.

Photos: SuicideGirls – Blackheart Burlesque @ El Corazon

Seattle truly lucked out when SuicideGirls selected it as one of their October tour dates. The show, a celebration of female beauty and talent, came back after a six-year break to treat fans to an absolutely gorgeous visual feast. A big thank you to photographer Paul Israel (and of course the girls!) for these fabulous shots:

Photos: Jillette Johnson @ Neumos

New York-based singer-songwriter Jillette Johnson headlined at Barboza last week in support of her debut album, Water in a Whale, released in June. Urging the audience to come closer at the beginning of her set, Johnson treated them to songs off the record – including the single “Cameron” – as well as a cover of Radiohead’s “Creep.”

Photos: Chvrches & XXYYXX @ Showbox at the Market

Glaswegians Chvrches, one of the year’s true breakthrough acts, headlined Showbox at the Market on September 6th. They return to Seattle for Deck the Hall Ball on December 3rd – prepare for that show by having a listen to their debut album, The Bones of What You Believe. Opening for Chvrches was XXYYXX, an electronic artist from Florida. All photos by Dave Lichterman:
