Duncan Sheik‘s new composition, the score for musical adaptation of American Psycho, just hit the stage in London to awesome reviews. Here’s to the hope that we’ll have it in the States soon. Sheik, who, in addition to songwriting, is a skilled composer, after all. If you get a chance to see Spring Awakening, a prior musical score of Sheik’s, we recommend it. A couple of years ago our own Jerick Hoffer had the role of Moritz at Balagan Theatre (you may know Hoffer better as Jinkx Monsoon). It was wonderful. Sheik just made an appearance at the Triple Door on February 10th, and we’re thrilled to share some handsome photos by Geoffrey Gribbin:

Ash, the great trio from Northern Ireland, made a rare appearance in Seattle on January 27th. The Tractor was lucky to host them, and we’re all lucky because there should be new Ash music coming out this year! Thank you to photographer Nicky Andrews for getting these cool shots of the band!

Lissie and her band played to a packed Crocodile Café on December 5th, 2013 in support of her new sophomore album, Back To Forever. Born Elisabeth Corrin Maurus, Lissie was named Paste Magazine‘s No. 1 best new solo artist of 2010. The Kopecky Family Band opened.

Norwegian songstress Ane Brun was approaching the end of her North American tour when she stopped at the Crocodile Café last week. “Don’t Leave,” from Ane’s recent double album Songs 2003-2013 was featured in the American Cancer Society’s Super Bowl 2014 commercial. Ane was accompanied by Linnea Olsson on cello, who also opened the show.
Photos: Maria Taylor @ Barboza
The as always low-keyed, but thoroughly entertaining, Maria Taylor made a stop at Barboza during the first leg of her 2014 tour. She started on drums while playing a few songs from her new album, Something About Knowing, then switched to guitar and occasionally piano for the remainder of the set. Maria had 3 other members in her band which included brother Macey Taylor on bass. They concluded their set with a rocking version of “Xanax” from her first album, 2005’s 11:11.
