The T Sisters – siblings Rachel, Chloe and Erika Tietjen – headlined at the Tractor Tavern on August 13th in support of their most recent release, Ready For Love. Accompanied by Steve Height (bass) and Andrew Allen Fahlander (mandolin/guitar), they combined folk, Americana, gospel, R&B, bluegrass and soul for a unique sound. The Sisters plan to return to Seattle in December.

Music: Axwell /\ Ingrosso’s “Sun Is Shining”

Band: Axwell /\ Ingrosso
Song: “Sun Is Shining”
Why You Want to Listen: The Swedish duo, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso of Swedish House Mafia, have yet another electronic house hit on its hands. “Sun Is Shining,” an exuberant tune I can’t get enough of, takes the guys to some amazing spots in Europe and Australia this fall. Oh, and read that odd symbol as Axwell AND Ingrosso.

Here’s something a bit different for Back Beat Seattle … Rock It Like A Redhead. Redheaded sisters Stephanie and Adrienne Vendetti, founders of How To Be A Redhead, brought their event to Seattle after stops in Nashville and Austin. What started out as simply coverage of redheaded rock stars Katrina Stone and Shayne Leighton, turned into an evening of beauty and glamour. The sold-out event also featured a red carpet walk, fashion show, beauty/fashion tips and makeovers.

Show Preview: The Tallest Man on Earth @ the Moore, Fri. 8/21

The Tallest Man on Earth (Swedish musician Kristian Matsson) headlines the Moore Theatre on Friday night, August 21st. In case you’re wondering why Matsson chose the name The Tallest Man on Earth, he told Patheos.com in 2013, “When you have a name like that, you have to write good music.” And he does write some mighty good music!

Able to move you strongly with his authentic voice, The Tallest Man on Earth also rattles you with supreme lyrics. I’m looking at to extract the drugs of springtime/but that unicorn, he stirs up as a mule/ I said throw me in the fire now, come on from “Pistol Dreams,” and when suddenly the rain is the only part you feel . . . and there’s a darkness of a dream from “Darkness of a Dream.” Also he’s one of the only musicians I can think of he uses so effectively the word fuck. Somehow it always fits in and never sounds placed as the now-I’m-going-to-be-edgy-and-swear-just-for-the-sake-of-it moment.

The Tallest Man on Earth is also doing something different for this tour: he’ll have an entire band with him. His new album, Dark Bird Is Home features a whole band on it, so this is a new configuration for The Tallest Man on Earth, who has always been a solo artist. Since I’m a Wikipedia dork, I checked out the album credits for Dark Bird Is Home, where it lists the following instruments played by Matsson (with other musicians, of course, playing additional instruments): banjo, bass guitar, clarinet, drums, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, harmonica, alto horn, omnichord, pedal steel guitar, percussion, piano, synthesizer, tape machine, tom-tom drum, vocals, and backup vocals. His own backup vocals. Damn!
