The Kills were in Seattle! The Kills were in Seattle! This was so awesome it had to be stated twice. They were one of the bands photographer Simon Krane snapped some shots of while he attended the Capitol Hill Block Party. The Capitol Hill Block Party, if you didn’t know, is one of Seattle’s best festivals. It always puts together a compelling lineup of local and touring artists. Well done again this year!!! Enjoy Krane’s photos of the Kills, Wye Oak, Big Wild, HARPS, Kinski and the Physics.

Band: The Insurrectionists
Song: “He Who Cried, ‘Whore'”
Why You Want to Listen: Casey K makes up New York’s the Insurrectionists, a rock band listing Foo Fighters and Smashing Pumpkins, among others, on its Facebook page. I can hear that. The Insurrectionists’ new album, I Gave You The Moon But You Wanted The Stars, comes out in January 2016.

The Sunset in Ballard hosted the Netherlands’ Jacco Gardner in June. Hypnophobia, which finds Gardner again making psychedelic magic, is his latest release, and though Europe’s got Gardner touring several countries there this fall and winter, here’s hoping he’ll return to Seattle very soon. Calvin Love and Tomo Nakayama opened the Seattle date.

Photos: Purity Ring & BRAIDS @ Showbox SoDo
Purity Ring, the Canadian duo with a very unique stage setup involving band member Corin Roddick’s lighting/instrument apparatus (see the pictures!!), came to Seattle this summer. Photographer Tino Tran captured some of the band’s set, which included some fetching clothes designed by Purity Ring’s other band member (and singer), Megan James. It’s always cool when musicians are able to make such a comprehensive stage presence. Fellow Canadians BRAIDS, who come back to Seattle on October 3rd for a date at Lo-Fi, opened. So, basically with the Purity Ring and BRAIDS show you could have had a purity ring made of braids. . .
Photos: Neon Trees, Alex Winston & Yes You Are @ the Showbox
The Showbox in Seattle had the very rad Neon Trees on its stage as headliners in June. What a fantastic thing to be able to see this band in such a lovely venue, with a floor that bounces up and down with an audience. Neon Trees fans must have enjoyed that extra fun emphasis for their dancing! We love featuring the Utah band on Back Beat Seattle; they’re always a great live act and have cool music to share with the world. On a bit of a break now, they had Alex Winston and Yes You Are open for them.
