British singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding played to an audience of nearly 10K at the KeyArena in Seattle over the weekend. It was just the second show of her Delirium World Tour – in support of her third studio album by the same name – that began in Vancouver the night before. Ellie was flanked on stage by dancers, her band and several backup singers. It was only a few years ago that I first saw Ellie at the “smallish” Neumos. The fast-rising star has seen her fan base swell enormously since then.

Photos: Rachel Platten @ Showbox at the Market

Rachel Platten made a stop at Showbox at the Market last week during her Wildfire tour, in support of her latest studio album by the same name. In what appeared to be a sold-out show, the enthusiastic audience ranged from one end of the age spectrum to the other. Rachel was joined on stage by longtime drummer Craig Meyer and three other band members. Rachael commented that she was at the Showbox almost exactly a year ago as an opener and only played a short set. I was fortunate to shoot that one as well. It’s amazing how a single song – “Fight Song” – can catapult a performer’s career.

Photos: Giraffage @ the Showbox

California’s Giraffage (musical name for one Charlie Yin) had the opening slot for Slow Magic at the Showbox in December 2015. Giraffage, whose genre Yin describes as “idk idc whatever dude” on Facebook, is an electronic producer who’s remixed songs by artists such as Mapei, Tinashe and Carly Rae Jepsen, among others. We’ve loved featuring Giraffage on here before, and are very happy to have him on again! All photos by Casey Brevig:

Iggy Pop – Brings us Post Pop Depression!

Iggy Pop came to Seattle on Monday, and of course he was amazing! The show started out sleepy and slow with opener, New York’s Sarah Lipstate, aka Noveller, who sounded kinda like if The Edge got really stoned and played solo. When Iggy got on, he brought the energy, kicking off his set with the classic and beloved “Lust for Life.” Although some of the audience called for Stooges songs, he didn’t play any of those. Instead, he drew from The Idiot, Lust for Life, and the new album, Post Pop Depression, making for a solid and fun set. Pop worked with Queens of the Stone Age’s front man Josh Homme on Post Pop Depression; as a big QOTSA fan this pairing got me excited! You can definitely hear a touch of the QOTSA sound in the great new songs and Pop’s & Homme’s voice sound incredible together. Watch for Pop to hit all the big European festivals this summer.
