Vanessa Carlton

Vanessa Carlton is a fantastic performer with a pure, clean voice, and soft flowing tones.

Carlton started with her show with her hit, “1000 Miles,” to, as she put it, “get it out of the way” so she could share some of her other works. Carlton’s pure voice accompanied with the Steinway and violin worked so well together.

I love it when artists talk about their lives and their influences. We forget sometimes that they are people with families and a past. The banter with the audience really rounded out her performance.

An example was the painting hanging behind her on stage, which was painted by her grandfather. She shared that he was a clothing designer and painter. Without the storytelling, we would not have known who she is and how her past influenced her present.

Brian Wilson – October 2016

Brian Wilson visited Seattle in October of last year, and thank all the heavens he’s returning tomorrow, Sunday April 9th. I’m so excited the Beach Boy is going to perform songs from Pet Sounds, an album that changed popular music forever. It really did! And Wilson says it’s going to be his final performance of the record. In its entirety.

In a recent interview, Wilson spoke a bit about the tour:

“It’s really been a trip to sit here and think about releasing Pet Sounds 50 years ago,”. . . “I love performing this album with my band and look forward to playing it for fans all across the world.”

We’re also lucky Seattle is one of the dates Beach Boy Al Jardine and former Beach Boy Blondie Chaplin will perform. So check this show out and let all that love and light flow through you. There’s no other sound like The Beach Boys and Brian Wilson. But first, we’ve got Tino Tran’s photos from 2016.

Tickets & more details can be found here.

Mitski – photo by Ebru Yildiz

Singer-songwriter Mitski has now sold out the Neptune tomorrow night! If you weren’t fortunate enough to get a ticket – or somehow didn’t know about her, which makes me sad, here are 5 things to know about her:

1) The Japanese-American lived all over the world while growing up. For real. Japan (naturally), Turkey, Malaysia? Yes, she was there.

2) Mitski has released four albums. If you know her, you’re probably most familiar with last year’s Puberty 2.

3) She has an outrageously beautiful voice.

4) She’s got a damn fine talent for songwriting and lyrics. My favorite lyric of hers might be I’m holding my breath with a baseball bat in “Townie.”

5) Mitski revealed, in an interview with The Guardian: “If I ever found a place where I belonged, that in itself would be an identity crisis to me.” Now that has to speak to so many people.

& keep your spirits up if you can’t catch her on Saturday, she’ll be back (fingers crossed).
