Details: Georgia’s Gringo Star, an indie rock band featuring brothers Nicholas Furgiuele and Peter Furgiuele, headlined Vera Project in September 2016. They’ve got a DJ set in their hometown this Friday, and go on the road with Shantih Shantih this month. Gringo Strar describes their songs as “echo-slathered, doo-wop-indebted indie gems.” That’s right on! Animal Camera opened the Seattle date.

Winner of four 2015 Tony Awards®, An American in Paris starts a six-day run in Seattle on Tuesday, May 9th. Based on the Academy Awards’ 1951 Best Picture of the same name, which starred the fantastic Gene Kelly, (the film beat A Streetcar Named Desire, by the way) writer Craig Lucas has adapted the story for modern Broadway. Lucas’ other work includes screenwriting the film Longtime Companion and bookwriting the musical Amélie.

The touring production stars ballet dancers Garen Scribner (cool note: Scribner cofound the benefit DanceFAR) and Sara Esty (cool note: Esty was a recipient of a Princess Grace Fellowship!!), who reprise their roles as Jerry Mulligan and Lise Dassin.* In keeping with these original stars of the Broadway production, we’re also lucky to have English director Christopher Wheeldon, who won the 2015 Tony for Best Choreography, at the helm. And the music is gorgeous: “But Not For Me” and “I Got Rhythm” are just a couple of the awesome tunes you’ll hear.

*Update: Apologies to the wonderful McGee Maddox, who plays Jerry Mulligan! My mistake. Garen Scribner is not in this production.

On April 26th, Aussie pop star Betty Who played a sold-out show at the newly remodeled Neumos on Capitol Hill. Backed by a three-member band plus two dancers, the Party In The Valley Tour stopped in Seattle in support of her new album, The Valley. Who frequently interacted with the crowd, took selfies with an audience member’s cell phone, and even had a costume change. Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter VÉRITÉ opened.

As we gear up for Warped Tour 2017, let’s relive some of 2016’s Warped Tour’s August 12th date at White River Ampitheatre. The Auburn, Washington show included a variety of rock acts such as Issues (metal core), Less Than Jake (ska) Mayday Parade (punk), and New Found Glory (rock: straight up). While last year’s Warped Tour saw the reunion of Tsunami Bomb, it featured one of the last shows by Yellowcard, who disbanded in 2017. And, did you become fans of Waterparks and Set It Off? They nabbed some high profile opening slots this year. Waterparks will tour with All Time Low (they’ll be in Seattle on July 11th at Showbox SoDo). Look for Set It Off‘s shows with Simple Plan (Seattle people: they visit us on September 2nd & 3rd at the Neptune).

Other acts photographer Charitie Myers caught are: Real Friends, Sleeping With Sirens, Waka Flocka Flame, The Maine and We the Kings

Tickets for this summer’s Warped Tour (including the tour’s first date – and debut at Seattle’s CenturyLink Field – on June 16th) over here.

Music: Tove Styrke’s “Say My Name”

Tove Styrke – photo by Emma Svensson

Artist: Tove Styrke
Song: “Say My Name”
Why You Want to Listen: The wonderful Swedish artist Tove Styrke is back! Brand new single “Say My Name” achieves exactly what Styrke hoped; as she describes it:

“There’s a reason why so much music is about sex and love. It is linked to one’s worst and best experiences. I have not written about love before because I didn’t want to write another love song. But I have changed. I am tired of being angry, right now I just need to make music that makes me feel good.”

So wear it out like a sweater and sing along to this awesome song. LOVE it & DANCE to it.
