WaMu Theater hosts the brilliant electronic producer and DJ RL Grime tonight, Friday October 13th. Do not stay home because it’s Friday the 13th. All that’s just superstition; RL Grime is real and bringing the Nova Tour here to you. I’m more than partial, because I honestly love trap music – and electronic music in general with all of its sub genres. RL Grime’s 2014 debut, Void really excelled at bringing most of those genres together in one beautiful place. The track “Valhalla” broke my heart, in a good way. I’m waiting for his second album, Nova, which I think will be released soon? Please?

More info on RL Grime:

His real name is Henry Steinway.

He’s worked with Skrillex and Baauer.

Clockwork is another name he’s used and released EPs under.

He’s remixed tracks by Drake, Chris Brown and Shlomo, among others.

And. . . I really hope this is true. . . RL Grime is an origami-enthusiast.

~Friday’s show is 16+/ with graves and WE ARE GTA.

TORRES – photo by Ashley Connor

TORRES, a singer-songwriter based in New York (via Nashville), returns to Seattle on Tuesday, October 10th. Last here in July for Capitol Hill Block Party, TORRES is celebrating the recent release of her third album, Three Futures. Real name Mackenzie Scott, TORRES has a cool, frequently low register voice that gets awesomely respectful treatment in recordings. And live? I’d expect it to be a revelation. She’s smartly worked with producer Rob Ellis (PJ Harvey!) twice (sharing producing responsibilities on Three Futures), and check out her videos too, including the sexy, sexy, sexy “Skim.” She’s made a number of those, such as “Skim” and the number below, “Helen In The Woods,” with director Ashley Connor. Enjoy those majorly! TORRES will also have in-store appearance at 1 PM at Light in the Attic Records on October 10th.

Band: Dim Sum
Song: “Stay”
Why You Want to Listen: Dim Sum, a producer and electronic musician from France, has remixed songs by Foster the People and Odesza. And others! He does his own thing as well, including (I think I am right on this) three EPs. His second single off Right Track makes my day.

Memory Lane Series lucky number 12 features Jonathan Leung’s photos from Nick Waterhouse’s show at Neumos in 2016. A rhythm and blues musician, Waterhouse’s newest album, Never Twice, includes a track with Leon Bridges. The album is also the first Waterhouse album not self-produced. Instead, production duties went to Michael McHugh (Black Lips,Ty Segall). Seattle’s Acapulco Lips celebrated in style by touring Europe this summer, with loads of dates in France.
