Diarrhea Planet

Details: Diarrhea Planet makes an appearance here in our Walk Down Memory Lane Series, part 10, with their show at the Tractor in August 2016. The Nashville rock band recently worked with a great fit in producer Vance Powell on album three, Turn to Gold. Powell has produced bands such as Kings of Leon, the Dead Weather, and Jars of Clay. See what we mean? And, for the Seattle date, another great live band, Hounds of the Wild Hunt, opened.

Video: Gary Numan’s “My Name Is Ruin”

Artist: Gary Numan
Video: “My Name Is Ruin”
Why You Want to Watch: It’s a beautiful video directed by Chris Corner (IAMX). I love a great apocalyptic concept; this one was placed in Californian deserts. “My Name Is Ruin” features vocals from Numan’s daughter, Persia, who also creates a strong presence with her dad in the video. Very cool family. Look for Numan’s newest album, Savage (Songs From A Broken World), releasing on September 15th, with a giant tour beginning in October (I see you, November 22nd at the Neptune!!!).

Diplo

Details: The third and final day of Capitol Hill Block Party brought a live set by American DJ/Producer Diplo at the Main Stage. Real name Thomas Wesley Pentz, Diplo is an artist you’ve heard, even if you didn’t realize it. He’s worked with Beyoncé, Usher, M.I.A., among others, and he won a Grammy for “Where Are Ü Now.” Also on the Main Stage were British DJs Snakehips, rapper Danny Brown and indie singer-songwriter Julie Byrne. Over at Neumos, He Whose Ox is Gored played a hard rock set, and the Vera Stage hosted Perfume Genius; original rapper/performance artist Mykki Blanco; Torres (we’re happy to add that Torres’ new album, Three Futures, is available on 9/29); and pop duo Diet Cig. New Seattle band fronted by Pearl Dragon, The White Tears & Pearl Dragon is Dead had a spot on Barboza’s lineup.

Thank you to Capitol Hill Block Party for letting us cover the festival again! We will have even more photos soon from photographer Simon Krane.

Photos: Michelle Branch @ Showbox at the Market

Singer-songwriter Michelle Branch made a long-awaited return to Seattle in support of her new album, Hopeless Romantic, her first studio recording in nearly 14 years. The Showbox at the Market appearance was the tenth stop of her 32-city Hopeless Romantic Tour. Her four-member band included The Black Keys drummer and fiancé, Patrick Carney. New York City-based Haerts – fronted by Nini Fabi and Benjamin Gebert – opened, and will be doing so through most of the tour.
