Photos: Kacey Musgraves @ Marymoor Park

Country artist Kacey Musgraves recently opened for Willie Nelson at Marymoor Park in Redmond, east of Seattle. She and her five-member band played material from her two studio albums as well as several new songs. Kacey told the audience that up until the tour started, she’d been busy planning her wedding [with Ruston Kelly] and writing. Near the end of her set she sang “Rhinestone Cowboy” as a tribute to Glen Campbell, who died a few days beforehand. Kacey’s set ended with a well-deserved standing ovation.

Song: “We Are Your Receiver” (Karnaval Blues Remix)
Why You Want to Listen: Amsterdam, Netherlands’ electronic quartet get their song “We Are Your Receiver” remixed by Karnaval Blues! The remix appears on Dusk, a remix album including treatment from Sasha as well, and it’s just beautiful. I encourage you to get to know this band and Karnaval Blues (KB tracks, sadly and strangely, seem impossible to find. The Leeds-based producer needs to fix that).

Slayer and Lamb of God kicked the doors down and destroyed WaMu Theater last night. They both put on such a great show and I just love covering them both. Slayer is due for a very anticipated record next year and Lamb of God released The Duke in 2016.

If you want to see a super high energy, irreverent metal show, find Slayer or Lamb of God as soon now!

Photos: Watershed @ The Gorge Amphitheatre – Day 1

About a dozen times each summer, a temporary encampment of 25,000 springs up at the Gorge Amphitheatre in eastern Washington for a weekend of music. The three-day Watershed country music festival happened over the last weekend in July – at the oasis in the desert. Close to 10 artists performed each day, split between the Main and Next From Nashville stages. Besides music, there were numerous additional activities for the crowd that was dominated by 20-somethings. The photos are shown in reverse chronological order – from the headliners in the evening on each stage, to the openers in the early afternoon.

Photos: Hailey Knox @ Crocodile Café

New York-based singer-songwriter Hailey Knox brought her soulful pop sound to the Crocodile Café on July 19th. She was on the road with R5 opening for their New Addictions Tour. In support of her debut EP A Little Awkward, Hailey was a one woman band with an electronic drum kit and guitar looping. Her set ended with the customary selfie with the audience. I ran into Hailey afterwards and we spent a few minutes taking some additional photos.
