Róisín Murphy

Part 16 of Back Beat Seattle’s Memory Lane series features Irish singer-songwriter Róisín Murphy. One of BBS’ photographers, Josh Daniels, made a fall trip to San Francisco, and how could we not help him get a photo pass for this show? Thanks to Murphy’s publicist, permission was granted! The performance included numerous costumes, and Murphy herself, of course, so these are well worth checking out. Murphy, who was the singer in the now disbanded Moloko, received a Mercury Prize nomination in 2016 for Hairless Toys.

Video: The Kooks’ “Broken Vow”

Band: The Kooks
Song: “Broken Vow”
Why You Want To Watch: The Kooks made a cool video (literally, there’s ice in it) for “Broken Vow,” one of two new songs on The Best of. . . So Far, a Kooks greatest hits album. Digging in to the Internet drew to my attention that the video’s director, Charlie Paul, helms ITCH FILM, an English ad and creative company. Naturally, I was drawn specifically to the cat section. The Kooks themselves are finishing their newest album, which required that they reschedule the planned 2017 headline tour. Those dates include a June 1st, 2018 appearance at Showbox SoDo.

Yes, Death Valley Girls lists the night time as their influence on Facebook. The Californian quartet spent an evening at Chop Suey in September, sharing their garage vibes, and also sharing the stage with Seattle’s Branden Daniel and the Chics and Eli. Signed with Burger Records (home of Dwarves, FIDLAR, Audacity), Death Valley Girls did not ask us to share the following information: Last month, the band’s van transmission went out: Oh no! But one of their friends kindly created a GoFundMe to help out. Just throwing that out there.
