Photos: UW First Nations 39th Annual Spring Pow Wow

Last year, in April to be exact, I went to the University of Washington’s First Nations 39th Annual Spring Pow Wow. It was held on the UW campus for three days – I caught quite a bit of the final day. There were competitions in singing, dancing and drumming, as well as some moving tributes to recently departed family members. I was also particularly interested in a dance called the Chicken Dance, which really fit as the spectacular regalia often reminded me of bird feathers; in fact, some regalia featured bird feathers.
