Photos and Review: Pitbull @ The Paramount

The word Pitbull conjures up many different images for many different people. To the folks at The Paramount on Friday night it meant a Latin-styled summer party hosted by Cuban born rapper, Armando Christian Perez (a.k.a. Pitbull).

Pitbull wrapped up one of the hottest concert tours of 2011; The Samsung/ AT&T Summer Krush. The tour featured such notables as Coldplay, Celo Green, Lenny Kravitz, and Pitbull.

Pitbull’s fans were in eager anticipation as the MC gave the 5 minute warning. The female fans voices filled The Paramount with some of his more popular dance songs. When Pitbull took to the stage, the crowd erupted with excitement. The heavy bass thumped like a powerful heartbeat and immediately the fans started dancing. They never stopped until the last note.

At most concerts, the party is right at the front, nearest the stage. Not Friday night; the real party was in the back where people had room to feel the beats. Young, old, male, female . . . everyone got their groove on.

Photos: Bumbershoot 2011 w/ Truckasauras, Mash Hall & Phantogram

Three of the smashing acts to play Bumbershoot this year were Truckasauras, Mash Hall & Phantogram. I was especially excited to see photos of Truckasauras, as I knew they’d put on a very visually appealing set. They always do. Sending a big thank you to Nicky Andrews and Simon Krane for getting pix of these three acts.

Album Review: Anomie Belle – The Crush

In the music world Anomie Belle is a bit of an anomaly. She’s a talented musician, composer and producer all-in-one, a triple threat. Her music has taken her around the world and back. She has performed and collaborated with an impressive list of artists including Mr. Lif, Jon Auer, The Album Leaf and Little Dragon.

On her new album, The Crush, Anomie’s dark, sultry, sexy sound has evolved to incorporate new styles and elements. Vocals on “Electric Lullaby” take a page from Bjork. Throughout most of the rest of the album they take on the characteristics of a low-key soul singer in a smoky lounge. The production and layering flesh out the sound well. A bouncing electro hip-hop beat powers the first single “Inky Drips.”
