This year Bumbershoot had an especially nice variety of artists to see, including Ana Tijoux, a French-Chilean rapper, musician/writer Eric Erlandson and local burlesque troupe, The Atomic Bombshells. Erlandson had his debut book of poetry, Letters to Kurt, published this year. Check out photos of these three artists by Kirk Stauffer and Nicky Andrews:

Photos: Fruit Bats, Bryan John Appleby & Noah Gundersen @ Bumbershoot

We’re continuing our Bumbershoot coverage tonight with photos of Fruit Bats, Bryan John Appleby and Noah Gundersen. Gunderson’s Facebook description is just this: Noah Gundersen writes songs and plays them for people. He likes to play music with his sister Abby. I think that is beautiful. Noah Gundersen will open for David Ramirez on a string of dates this fall, while Fruit Bats take a break from touring. Bryan John Appleby hits the road at the end of this week with The Head and the Heart. Not bad at all.

Photos: Passion Pit & Yelawolf @ Bumbershoot

Passion Pit and Yelawolf had spots on Bumbershoot’s TuneIn stage this year – and played to fans in the sun, and fans in the evening. In addition to having an impressive number of tattoos, Yelawolf, the Alabaman rapper, has a spot on Eminem’s label. Passion Pit’s second album, Gossamer, is out now. All photos by Kirk Stauffer!

thenewno2, a six-piece including Dhani Harrison and Jonathan Sadoff, and Seattle group Barcelona each performed at this year’s Bumbershoot. I’m thrilled photographers Kirk Stauffer and Nicky Andrews got photos of these bands – I had to miss them. If you’re in Las Vegas on September 27th you can catch Barcelona’s next show, and thenewno2 tours their latest album, thefearofmissingout, this fall.

Show Preview: Static-X @ Showbox at the Market, Tues. 9/11

Seattle’s had some major luck in the last couple weeks with Californian rock bands coming through our now, finally again, wet with rain city. It’s been a 45 day drought – not to whine or anything. Continuing the run, I hope we can give Static-X a rainy welcome. The band, according to Wikipedia, refers to themselves as “evil disco.” That’s the most exciting description I think I have ever seen of a band. Wayne Static will perform in Static-X as part of the Noise Revolution Tour, though with an entirely new band. It’s still Wayne Static, so don’t grumble. They’ll headline Showbox at the Market tomorrow, Tuesday September 11th for an all ages show with wow, four opening bands. Doors are at 8 PM. Also, check out the interview Alex Crick did with Wayne Static in 2009 for Back Beat Seattle.
