New York-based singer-songwriter Jillette Johnson headlined at Barboza last week in support of her debut album, Water in a Whale, released in June. Urging the audience to come closer at the beginning of her set, Johnson treated them to songs off the record – including the single “Cameron” – as well as a cover of Radiohead’s “Creep.”

Glaswegians Chvrches, one of the year’s true breakthrough acts, headlined Showbox at the Market on September 6th. They return to Seattle for Deck the Hall Ball on December 3rd – prepare for that show by having a listen to their debut album, The Bones of What You Believe. July 30th – the date the Cult and White Hills played Showbox SoDo – just doesn’t even seem like it was that far away, alas, summer has left us. Brits the Cult should have a new album out in 2014, while White Hills just finished a huge European tour. Thanks to photographer Steve Campagna for capturing shots of both bands in Seattle!

We’re stepping a little back into our time capsule for some photos of this year’s Bumbershoot festival. North Carolina’s Superchunk, a band with serious staying power, was just one of the acts Simon Krane ventured out to photograph. Also on his list? Redd Kross and Kinky, two other bands who have indeed withstood the music landscape.

Soulful British R&B singer-songwriter Jessie Ware made a stop at the Neptune Theater last week during the west coast leg of her North American tour. Jessie mentioned that she’s constantly been on the road for the past year and will be taking some time off as soon as the tour is over in a few days. Dave Okumu, who produced Jessie’s debut album Devotion, opened with his band The Invisible, and later joined her on stage.
