Kings of Leon Full Stage (1 of 1)

I had the great opportunity of enjoying Kings of Leon at KeyArena on Friday night as a music fan instead of as a working photographer. Armed with a small pocket camera instead of my full camera bag, my wife and I were joined by Trista and Herb Siltman for a wonderful dinner and a very entertaining show.

Aside from the veil of very colorful lights, Caleb, Nathan, Jared, and Matthew liked a very dark stage, which made it difficult to see them playing. I liked the music first approach but it’s also nice to see the musicians pouring their heart and soul in their performance.

The buzz from everyone around us was about how tight the band sounded and how vivid the light show was. The Kings of Leon faithful were really enjoying themselves, singing and dancing through the 26-song set list. The band played a combination of older songs and new ones from their recent release, Mechanical Bull.

It really was a great show and one that I will definitely catch again the next time they are in town.

Photos: Lorde @ WaMu Theater

Grammy-winning Lorde from New Zealand played at a sold-out show at the WaMu Theater on Monday. This was her third Seattle performance in five months and she had the 5000+ crowd on their feet from beginning to end. Born Ella Yelich-O’Connor, the 17-year-old captured the audience with her lion mane hair and twitching stage presence during her 1:15 set.

Photos: The Fratellis @ the Crocodile

It’s the Fratellis! The Scottish band played their rescheduled Crocodile date on February 27th (singer Jon Fratelli lost his voice before the prior gig). What a welcome return for a band who hadn’t been in Seattle for several years, and who just released another strong album, We Need Medicine, last year. All photos by Monica Martinez:

Photos: Angel Olsen @ Barboza

Jagjaguwar-signed artist Angel Olsen was here in Seattle to headline Barboza on March 7th. Olsen comes from Missouri (here I thought she was one of the many Scandinavian artists running through our town) and just released her latest, Burn Your Fire For No Witness, in February. Kirk Stauffer contributed these lovely shots of Olsen!
