Event Previews: Reykjavik Calling @ Neumos – Saturday, 10/11 & Icelandic Menu @ the Dahlia Lounge – Thursday, 10/9 through Sunday, 10/12

Reykjavik Calling, now in its 5th year, returns to Neumos this Saturday, October 11th. The event is part of a broader cultural program by Iceland Naturally, which celebrates and promotes Icelandic art, music, food, and really – all things Icelandic.

The free show, featuring Icelanders Sin Fang, Sóley and Júníus Meyvant, will also have local artists such as Cataldo on the bill as a way of sharing some love between Seattle and its Icelandic sister city, Reykjavik. Get there early – this show will reach venue capacity very quickly.

Other events happening this month include a special Icelandic menu at the Dahlia Lounge from October 9th through the 12th, and an Icelandic art exhibit called Odin’s Eye (because you know, the god Odin gave up one of his eyes in return for wisdom!) focussing on Norse Mythology at the Nordic Heritage Museum.

Learn more about these events – and others during the Taste of Iceland – over at Iceland Naturally’s programming page.

Photos: Bumbershoot – Day 1 w/ Naomi Wachira & Fly Moon Royalty

Naomi Wachira and Fly Moon Royalty, two Seattle acts, had some serious exposure at this year’s Bumbershoot. Wachira, who comes from Kenya originally, played the Starbucks Stage, while duo Fly Moon Royalty appeared on the Fisher Green Stage. Fly Moon Royalty is currently on a nationwide tour – definitely catch them if they come to your city – and Wachira is set to play Columbia City Theater on October 18th.

Photos: Linus Young @ Neumos

Linus Young – the musical duo fronted by Iris Belson and Joseph Walker – played a sold-out show at Neumos over the weekend. Currently on tour with Tove Lo, the L.A. natives released their debut single “City of Sin” to rave reviews last year. Although the music style is very different, Linus Young’s harmonies bring to mind another (former) duo – The Civil Wars.

Photos: Logan Brill @ Triple Door

Nashville-based singer/songwriter Logan Brill recently played at the Triple Door in Seattle as part of the Western Arts Alliance Conference. Brill is touring in support of her terrific debut album, Walking Wires, that was featured in CMA’s Close Up Magazine in its Debut Spotlight section and also made its way onto That Nashville Sound’s Top Albums of 2013. Accompanied by Bryan Downing on guitar, the audience loved Brill’s country/Americana sound.
