Singer-songwriter Joshua Radin released his sixth album, Onward and Sideways, this January. Seattle was one of the lucky cities who got to see him perform songs from that album, as well as other songs of course, during his appearance at the Neptune on March 1st. One of the cool things about Radin is that some years ago he participated in a Frank Sinatra cover album called His Way, Our Way. Radin’s song? “Fly Me to the Moon.” But back to his Seattle show already! Photos by Dana Pleasant give us a look at Radin’s show:

Ireland’s Celtic Thunder, an all-male vocal band, headlined the Paramount Theatre on March 8th. Naturally, I was there, as I am pretty into Irish things; however, I was not so familiar with this group’s PBS specials. Celtic Thunder’s PBS shows have created a huge following of the singers, who bring string, bagpipe and harp instruments with them. If you have not been to one of their shows, I encourage you to check them out. The singers are charming and interact very well with the audience, making me, at any rate (and by their reception, everyone else) feel as if I was just hanging out with the group while they performed versions of traditional Irish songs such as “Danny Boy,” and tunes off their albums, including “Caledonia” and “Hallelujah.” By the way, two of Celtic Thunder, Neil Byrne and Ryan Kelly, will bring their side project, Byrne and Kelly, to Seattle on August 21, when they play Ballard Homestead!

Back in December 2014 The New HOT 103.7 held its ever first HOT House Party at ShoWare Center. The Kent, Washington venue had Bobby Brown, Tony! Toni! Toné!, Ginuwine, and Rob Base (that’s a sweet lineup) all perform sets as part of a true old school hip hop event. Photographer Alex Crick captured a lot of the classic greatness:

Tori Kelly

The Where I Belong Tour stop in Seattle started with loud screams and shouts of “I love you Tori!,” “I love your hair!” and “Tori, Tori, Tori!.” I’ve seen Tori Kelly several times before – solo, just a girl with a guitar – but her 4-member band added a whole new dimension to her music and gave her the freedom to make the complete stage her own. She would frequently prance from one corner to the other with the crowd stretching their arms forward as she went by. Her voice was amazing!

Tori mainly played songs from her upcoming album, Unbreakable Smile, due to be released on June 23. This will be her first LP, following several successful EPs. She also played a few songs that made her famous on YouTube. About half way through, the band left the stage for 10 minutes while she played and sang on her own. Included during this part of the show was “Paper Hearts,” where she stepped away from the mic and let the audience sing … they knew every word. She also did a great rendition of “Crazy” by Seal, which was followed by the obligatory 15 second crowd video. What a terrific show!

Husband and wife team Us The Duo (Michael and Carissa Alvarado) opened and were a great complement to Tori’s music.
