February 20th, 2016 found EMP hosting Sound Off!‘s semifinals number 2. R&b singer-songwriter Paris Alexa won first place, while psychedelic artist Animal Camera got the second place spot. Congrats to them and to Travis Thompson (Audience Favorite!) and Crews for battling it out. All photos by Simon Krane:

Kicking off his “Surfing To Shockwave” tour, Joe Satriani rocked the Paramount with his incredible guitar licks and his magnetic stage presence. He’s immensely talented with a sterling history and he seems to really enjoy entertaining the audience. He’s one show that I look forward to when he comes to Seattle.
The evening wasn’t without its mishaps however. There was an issue with a guitar not working correctly and with a stage screen that fell. The audience got it and they weren’t bothered at all. Joe Satriani joked about opening tour teething problems.
His latest record SHOCKWAVE SUPERNOVA is incredible.

Coeur De Pirate (singer-songwriter Béatrice Martin) recently played at Neumos. Her stop in Seattle was in support of her most recent album, Roses, released last year. The audience loved her songs in both English and French. Fresh off an appearance on The Today Show, another Canadian singer-songwriter Ruth B opened.

Progressive indie pop rockers Alvarez Kings played a sold-out event at Showbox at the Market over the weekend. The four-member band is on tour with Melanie Martinez in support of their debut release, Fear To Feel. Simon Thompson, Paul Thompson, Sean Parkin and Richard Walker make up the London-based group. Near the end of their set, they asked the 1000+ audience to turn on their cell phone lights, which made the venue glow.
