Foreigner tore up White River Amphitheatre with their 40th Anniversary tour.

Wow, 40 year. . . I remember when Foreigner’s first record Foreigner hit the airwaves in 1977, followed closely by Double Vision in 1978. They were the band to follow back in the ’70s and ’80s.

In 2004, remaining original member, Mick Jones found lead singer Kelly Hanson, who has real presence on stage. The remaining members of Foreigner have been around a long time and they have a rich musical history and they are equally impressive.

So how was the show? In a word, incredible!

My first impression of this show was, “this band still puts on one hell of a show.” The sound and the lights were so clean and bright. Foreigner took full advantage of the expansive White River stage and the band members moved from one end to the other.

During “Cold As Ice,” Hanson leaped the barrier into the crowd and walked among the excited crowd. When “Juke Box Hero” started, the stage smoke camouflaged Hanson’s escape. He reappeared on a riser near the soundboard. All eyes were trained on Kelly Hanson for the beginning of “Juke Box Hero” as he sang like a Rock God on his pillar of light

The last song was “Hot Blooded,” which included the fantastic South Kitsap High School’s Chamber Choir. The Choir, along with Foreigner, was the perfect ending to an incredible show.

Do you like punk music? Do you like beer? Bigger question is, do you like great punk music and great beer? Then head over to Tacoma this Saturday, September 16th for Punk in Drublic, a festival featuring punk rock stars such as NOFX, Bad Religion and Less Than Jake. Taking place at America’s Car Museum (it’s an actual museum right in the same area as Tacoma Dome, you can find it easily), Punk in Drublic comes courtesy of NOFX’s Fat Mike. Thank you, Fat Mike. This is the first show on the festival’s tour, and it’s selling out fast. If you want to go, get on that!

And, many craft beers will be available, including Punk in Drublic Hoppy Lager! What’s that, you ask?

Created from the mind and liver of NOFX’s frontman Fat Mike and named for NOFX’s classic Punk In Drublic album, which has sold over one million copies. . . To celebrate Punk In Drublic, Fat Mike teamed up with craft beer pioneers Stone Brewing to brew their very own Stone & NOFX Punk in Drublic Hoppy Lager, which will be available in cans only in the festival markets. This collaboration is a huge show of support by Stone, as it marks the first time ever that Stone has worked with a musician for a can release.

There it is!!!When You Just Need Something to Wash the Noise Down – Nice!

Follow the festival’s Facebook page as well for any updates! Here’s the scheduled showtimes:

The fantastic double bill of Rancid and Dropkick Murphys performed at WaMu Theater on August 16th. Their co-headlining Boston to Berkeley Tour took them literally from Boston (Dropkick Murphys’ home) to Berkeley (Rancid’s home), and all other points in between. Next up, Dropkick Murphys head to South America and France in the fall for shows (oh that must suck! get that sarcasm?), while Rancid recently appeared on Conan and some of the band were made honorary captains of their local MLS soccer teams. Each band has made their massive presence known in the punk music genre, and we’re so thrilled we got to cover this show. It means a lot.

Bumbershoot’s final day is tonight, Sunday, September 3rd ! First, a bit of news for you, in the form of a cancellation. Trio Haim had to call off their set today, as singer/guitarist Danielle Haim is sick with laryngitis. Haim posted a sweet note on their Facebook, while Danielle Haim left this nice video message – get better soon!

But plenty of other bands will be there, such as the following artists. It’s mostly an electronic music kind of day.

Main Stage

ODESZA @ 9:20 (headliner)
Electronic

ODESZA plays its first show in the area since July’s Capitol Hill Block Party. I list them as my number one band to see at this year’s Bumbershoot, and I would expect a large number of people lining up to see them. I’m gigantically awaiting their new album, A Moment Apart. The album, with songs featuring Regina Spektor and Leon Bridges, is set for a September 8th release. Mark your calendars.

ODESZA

KeyArena

Cash Cash @ 8:55
Electronic

Cash Cash

New Jersey electronic trio Cash Cash, including DJ brothers, Alex Makhlouf and Jean Paul Makhlouf, plus another DJ named Samuel Frisch, had a song out last year called “Take Me Home.” I love this song. I love the vocals by Bebe Rexha. Should be a great set.

Monster Energy Stage @ Fisher Green

HONNE @ 5:55
Electronic

HONNE

An English duo with a Japanese name, HONNE (meaning one’s behavior in public/following expectations), have a great sundown/outdoor set at Fisher Green. Back in 2014, The Telegraph wrote, “HONNE’s futuristic soul is destined to re-invent babymaking music.

KEXP Stage

Dave Depper @ 5:30
Alternative

Dave Depper

Death Cab for Cutie’s guitarist Dave Depper played in several area groups before he joined the band. He also recorded as a solo artist, starting with The Ram Project in 2010. You might not know this. I’ve familiarized myself with his very attractive 2017 release, Emotional Freedom Technique, which came out on a Portland label. Why is that particularly interesting to me? Because the label is called Tender Loving Empire, part of a store selling quite unique things. I think that’s pretty cool.

And this isn’t a music item, but check out these wonderful rabbit figures. They are on the festival grounds:
