Photos: SXSW 2022 – Day 1

After three long years, SXSW finally returned!  The six-day music festival in Austin, Texas typically hosts over 2000 performers in over 100 venues, and draws several hundred thousand attendees. After photographing 88 performances over the six days, here is my coverage from SXSW 2022, Day 1.

Jazz Alley hosted Judith Hill for two nights on March 22nd & 23rd. Hill, a blues musician from Los Angeles, released Baby, I’m Hollywood! last year. She brought a full band with her, including Michiko Hill, who also played organ and synths on Baby, I’m Hollywood!. The Grammy-winning Hill plays music even beyond blues, beautifully lending her voice to whatever she pleases.

Singer-songwriter Suzanne Santo visited Seattle’s Tractor Tavern on February 5th. Half of duo Honeyhoney, Santo is out on her own (with band) celebrating the release of her second solo album, Yard Sale. The model and actress also plays a variety of impressive instruments, including the violin and banjo. Hitting the road again at the end of March, she’ll head home to Ohio for two shows in April.

Singer-songwriter Claire Rosinkranz played a sold-out show at the Vera Project.  The California native was very animated onstage and included a large amount of audience interaction during her set.  A fan gave Claire a bouquet of flowers and she took several photos with the crowd without missing a beat.  The evening started with a meet and greet for a lucky group of fans – and concluded with casual photos outside.
