All right! As Many Weirdos As Possible is a project I can get behind. Its purpose, which is to focus on Seattle culture from the years 1985-1995, features photography of “as many weirdos as possible.” Who wouldn’t love that? Team Weirdo includes two Back Beat Seattle photographers, Rachel Crick and Alex Crick, and I love that too. On Saturday night, September 17th Slim’s Last Chance (which has food – lots of delicious looking food) hosts a show with Carrie Akre (Hammerbox, Goodness) and rapper Kid Sensation. Plus Robert Roth and DJ Funk Daddy. Proceeds go to the As Many Weirdos As Possible, with tickets available right here.

Why You Want to Watch: Bassist and songwriter of White Lies directed the video for the band’s latest single, “Trouble in America.” Along with collections of videos from, I believe American ’50s and maybe ’60s, Cave puts singer/guitarist Harry McVeigh in what’s maybe a coffin? a bed? for a rather mind-bending film.

In its 13th year, Sweet Dreams, The Music of Patsy Cline, returned to the Triple Door last week for a sold out show.  Northwest singer-songwriters – V. Contreras, Star Anna, Miller Campbell, Alessandra Rose, Kate Voss, Hillary Fretland and Jessica Lynne Witty – each sang five Patsy Cline songs in two sets, complete with a costume change.  Musicians Rebecca Young (bass), Jason Goessl (guitar), Country Dave Harmonson (steel guitar), Aaron O’Neil (drums) and William Stover (piano) backed the singers.

Indonesian singer-songwriter NIKI played a sold out show at the Showbox.  The popular R&B/pop artist and her three-member band performed numerous songs from her recently released Nicole album.  NIKI took a break during her set to Facetime and surprise her best friend on her birthday, with the audience in the background.  Fun fact … at 15, NIKI  was the opening act for Taylor Swift in Jakarta.  Los Angeles-based Paravi opened.

The Pacific Northwest’s own Bikini Kill plays the final date of their tour at Marymoor Park on September 17th. Original members Kathleen Hanna, Kathi Wilcox and Tori Vail – plus guest guitarist Sara Landeau -bring their Riot Grrrl culture to music and, well, their philosophy to the party. This makes Bikini Kill especially welcome in their hometown area, where the whole movement began. While they are beloved all over, the Pacific Northwest has a remaining affinity for punk and feminism: We’re Bikini Kill and we want Revolution Girl-style now! Tickets are available here.
