Show Review & Photos: Public Image Limited @ Showbox Market

The bass of Public Image Limited is wicked. Also wicked is one of the most original voices in rock, John Lydon. No one else sounds like him and I don’t think anyone can even try. Maybe you hate his voice; I don’t really care if you do because I love it and all those people who showed up on Tuesday night are on my side. Part of what really got me going during this show (in addition to Lydon’s unreal howl) was the rhythmic brilliance of these songs. They are some of the best dance songs you’re going to come across. Flowers of Romance? Yes, yes yes. Tie Me to the Length of That? And arguably their pièce de résistance, Religion I? John Lydon said he wrote the song 30 years ago and it’s as relevant today as it was then. It’s not every night you see a band this significant. Lydon didn’t appreciate the fans in the bar so much, pointing out they were too cool to be on the main floor. But that’s quite okay to be singled out by Lydon in his way. According to Rise, Anger is an energy . . . Photos:

Photos: La Roux & DJ Colby B @ the Showbox Market

La Roux played the Showbox Market on Monday evening to an adoring and dancing crowd. La Roux deserves this respect – they’re purveyors of synth dance music of the best kind. With the vocals of Ellie Jackson, they recall and reinvent the genre of the Human League, Heaven 17 and Eurythmics. Perfection! Local artist DJ Colby B set the mood before La Roux’s show. I always love hearing her play.

Photos: Electric Six @ Chop Suey

I have a long and boring story I could share about why it took me so long to get these photos ready. Basically it involves my camera deciding to shoot only in the RAW and making it very difficult to edit these photos. Anyway, I love Electric Six and want them to return when my camera decides to behave itself again -and it will. Anytime. Anytime. My photos of one of the best bands, ever:

Photos: Muse @ KeyArena

If Muse had arranged for a spaceship to land in the middle of KeyArena it would not have surprised me one bit. If any band could manage that Muse is it, and that’s about the only way they could top themselves with their incredible music and galactic stage set. Although they manage to pull you into another world with their music, so there’s really no need for that spaceship. . . I first saw them at a much smaller venue in Seattle about seven years ago and it was always obvious their sound was made to fill huge arenas as easily as it lives in individual ways inside their fans. The show included a rotating drum kit (yes!!) and singer/guitarist Matthew Bellamy seemed to hold what was his own personal laser beam in between guitar licks. They are some of the best musicians you will ever hear. Hysteria indeed. As with my pix of openers, Silversun Pickups, I will post more photos soon – but here are some now:
