Photos: The Greenwood Car Show

Who doesn’t like pretty, shiny things? Plus pretty, shiny things that can go really fast? We may not have seen these cars speeding around the streets of Seattle, but they were on display at the Greenwood Car Show for one day. Now going into its 22nd year, the event featured music, food, and tons of nifty merchandise. Also there were many adorable dogs.

Show Review & Photos: Griffin House & Callaghan @ the Tractor Tavern

Griffin House & Callaghan @ the Tractor Tavern, August 15th
Review & Photos by Heather Fitzpatrick

All right, it could have been the heat, but Callaghan and Griffin House played songs that could melt faces at the Tractor on August 15th. Love songs, songs of historical special meaning, and songs of life as a musician; each act had the audience captivated by the music.

Callaghan

Callaghan, originally from London, has moved stateside in recent years, and continues to tour quite extensively. Her debut album, Life In Full Colour is available here, and has received rave reviews in the likes of Billboard.com and The Huffington Post.

Callaghan

Griffin House didn’t start playing music until the age of 18. (He grew up quite an athlete, and golf was his game of choice.) Since deciding to become a musician, he’s played local gigs, toured with The Cranberries, John Cougar Mellencamp, and others, as well as headlined his own tour. As one of the members of Ten Out Of Tenn, he also played numerous shows with its members and appears on their compilation CDs. His latest release, The Learner (2010) is available here. You will also be happy to know that his Kickstarter campaign was completely funded this July, and his CD is slated for a fall release.

Jesca Hoop @ Empty Sea Studios

Jesca Hoop’s stories are as entertaining as her music. And what an intimate house concert setting at Empty Sea Studios in Seattle’s Phinney neighborhood. Brought up in northern California and now living in Manchester, England, Hoop is finishing up a US tour in support of her new album, The House That Jack Built. The lovely Leslie Stevens (Leslie Stevens and the Badgers) provided beautiful harmonies for the evening. Grammy award-winning Jesse Harris opened. Harris played on four Norah Jones albums and will be supporting her during her upcoming South American tour.

Kasey Chambers @ Triple Door

On her first US tour in several years, Australian country singer-songwriter
Kasey Chambers
played at the Triple Door last week. Accompanied by father Bill Chambers (guitar), Ashleigh Dallas (fiddle) and Michael Muchow (guitar, banjo), Chambers played a long set with a variety of songs spanning her decade+ music career. Even blue-eyed daughter Poet made an appearance.

What do a mail carrier, a mime, babies, a clown, a leprechaun, a ballerina, and a band all have in common? They appeared in zombie form at this year’s Red, White & Dead Zombie Walk, which took place on July 7th in Fremont. There’s a lot to learn about Zombies; we recommend you check out an awesome film called Zombies: A Living History – and enjoy photos from special contributor, Kirsten Buckman:
