Escondido, a folk rock duo from Nashville, Tennessee, headlined the Tractor in April. Jessica Maros, from Vancouver, Canada, who worked with Band of Horses’ Bill Reynolds in another pairing, KUZIN, and Taylor James, a Mount Vernon, Washington-born touring band member of several bands, including Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, comprise the band. See what great combinations can be made? Escondido returned to Seattle with a September Bumbershoot appearance (we’ll have photos of that show too!), but first, Escondido photos by Tino Tran:
Show Preview: Gringo Star @ the Vera Project, Fri. 9/16
All ages venue the Vera Project has Atlanta, Georgia rock band Gringo Star on its stage this Friday, September 16th. Let me get this out of the way first: There’s no reason on earth why you haven’t acquainted yourself with their latest album, the excellent The Sides And In Between (Gringo Star album four). Not only has it been out since August, but you can hear the work for free over on Flood Magazine (thanks Flood!!!) and on Spotify. The music is groovy and handsome and I want to live in it. I can see why the group’s press release mentions that the founding members, brothers Nicholas and Peter Furgiuele, grew up “cutting their teeth on the likes of Buddy Holly, The Animals and The Kinks.” I recommend catching the ’60s, mind-filling rock live.

Photos: Tina Dico @ the Triple Door
Tina Dico, a singer-songwriter from Denmark, performed at the Triple Door in May. For the show, she brought fellow musician (and her husband), Helgi Jónsson, with whom she’ll have a set of September performances in Germany. Some big news since the Seattle date, and just announced by Dico on her Facebook page: she’s pregnant with her third child! Congratulations, and we’re thrilled for her and Jónsson.

Video: Major Lazer & DJ Snake “Lean On”
Band: Major Lazer & DJ Snake
Song “Lean On” might be a 2015 release, but I will post any video I want, from any time! Totally doesn’t need to be a new video, I just have to like it.
Why You Want to Watch: The video and song features Danish musician MØ, that’s the number one point. It’s also got the American electronic supergroup Major Lazer and the French producer DJ Snake in it, also dancing in a Bollywood-inspired sequence. There’s a reason the video, to date, has over 1 billion views.
Show Preview: Adam Conover @ the Showbox, Tues. 9/12
Comedian Adam Conover hits Seattle’s Showbox tomorrow night, Tuesday September 13th. The appearance also happens to be the first date of Conover’s Adam Ruins Everything LIVE tour. And what’s Adam Ruins Everything? (answer: it’s a show on truTV ), and why is Conover allowed to perform it LIVE? (the answer is a question: why not?). The premise of the show, based on Conover’s worries, sometimes reflects on the pointlessness of your assumptions, and the way he does it is hilarious. Who can explain why? I had no idea a genre called “educational comedy” would be so excellent.
Other important notes: this is an early show, with doors at 7 PM, show at 8 PM. Don’t be late. For tickets & more information, follow this link to the Showbox’s event page.
