Seattle was the first stop of Tove Lo’s Lady Wood tour, in support of her latest album by the same name. Lo, a Swedish artist who followed up her 2014 debut album Queen of the Clouds with 2016’s Lady Wood, is a rare and powerful talent. Appropriately, the name Lo means lynx in Swedish. What a fitting name for the woman who is so willing to share her feelings with the world, and turn those feelings into wonderful music. She was also an executive producer on album two! The sold-out show at Showbox SoDo lasted 80 minutes and was extremely well received by the packed venue. The well-paired American singer-songwriter Phoebe Ryan opened.

Former KISS lead guitarist Ace Frehley finished his solo Space Invader tour at the Neptune Theatre in Seattle before heading to South America. “Space Ace” has been a solo artist since 1984 (with brief stints in KISS); he and his band performed and sounded great. His longtime fans reacted with approval of the 40-year rock star, who delivered.

News: International Clash Day, February 7th

Today is International Clash Day! Now in its fifth year, International Clash Day celebrates what else, the stellar English punk band. The Clash really needs no introduction. But you know what? Seattle is one of the fine cities celebrating it officially. In honor of the group, here’s one of my favorite Clash songs, “London Calling.” You’re welcome.

English-born American actress and singer-songwriter Lola Kirke headlined at the Ballard Homestead last week. Known for her starring roles in Mistress America and TV series Mozart in the Jungle, Kirke is touring in support of her new self-titled EP. Portland-based Johanna Warren opened and was joined by Bella Blasko.

Juicy J

Award-winning rapper Juicy J performed at the Neptune Theatre with special guest Belly on his Rubba Band Business Tour on Monday night to a packed house that was READY TO PAR-TAY! I’ve seen Juicy J a few times and I have mad enjoyed him every time. “Juicy” has that certain something that I love to see in musicians. He just loves the crowd and they love on him back; there was genuine give-and-take.

For a good portion of the show, his fans handed their phones to Juicy and he took selfies with the fans. The audience loved it, and before we knew it, there was a blizzard of phones being handed to him.

If you get a chance to see Juicy J, do so. You will not be disappointed.
