As we gear up for Warped Tour 2017, let’s relive some of 2016’s Warped Tour’s August 12th date at White River Ampitheatre. The Auburn, Washington show included a variety of rock acts such as Issues (metal core), Less Than Jake (ska) Mayday Parade (punk), and New Found Glory (rock: straight up). While last year’s Warped Tour saw the reunion of Tsunami Bomb, it featured one of the last shows by Yellowcard, who disbanded in 2017. And, did you become fans of Waterparks and Set It Off? They nabbed some high profile opening slots this year. Waterparks will tour with All Time Low (they’ll be in Seattle on July 11th at Showbox SoDo). Look for Set It Off‘s shows with Simple Plan (Seattle people: they visit us on September 2nd & 3rd at the Neptune).

But I have changed. I am tired of being angry, right now I just need to make music that makes me feel good.”

Photos: SXSW 2017 in Austin, Texas

Back from another March pilgrimage to Austin for the SXSW Music Festival. An additional day was added to the festival this year, resulting in six solid days of music – Monday to Saturday – nonstop each day from noon until 2am. I saw 70 performances in Austin during that time. This included the official showcases in the evening that your purchased badge admits you to, as well as the many, many free day parties put on by record companies, publicists, instrument manufactures, countries, publications, and everything else related to the music industry – complete with complimentary food and drinks. The official shows had 2000+ performers hailing from 60+ counties appearing in 100+ venues. This was my eighth SXSW and every year I declare a Best New Find. This year it’s Maggie Rogers and she’ll soon be a household name. And without further ado, here’s one photo from each of the 70 performances:

Show Review & Photos: Kaleo w/ Judah & the Lion @ the Showbox

Kaleo played a sold out performance at the Showbox Saturday night to a very enthusiastic crowd of all ages. Some young and some young at heart danced all night. The party got started with a fantastic performance by Judah & the Lion, who grabbed the stage and never let go until the very last song.

Judah has a very unique sound combining alt-country, dance, and bluegrass that had the capacity crowd bouncing and screaming.

Kaleo followed Judah & The Lion with JJ Julius Son’s deep sultry voice dominating the stage. He has such a cool voice for the blues. Kaleo’s set was a little less colorfully lit for most of his songs, which made sense given his style. He changed that up with his falsetto on his hit “All The Pretty Girls.”

Kaleo is one of those bands that I could listen to all day – so much so that I bought their album, A/B.

The brilliant deadmau5, producer of electronic house and all things awesome and electronically-based, has two shows lined up for us in Seattle: Friday, April 21st & Saturday, April 22nd. Thank you. Really, thank you. That should be enough to persuade you that you need to see these shows.

But. . . maybe you have not heard deadmau5? Joel Thomas Zimmerman is deadmau5’s person/behind stage name, and he’s got an intriguing group of people he’s worked with. Great examples include My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way, who provided vocals to “Professional Griefers,” KASKADE on the track “I Remember” (if you know any deadmau5 song immediately, most likely it’s this one), and Rob Swire singing on “Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff”. If you’re asking, so far in my deadmau5 fan life “aware” just might hit the top of my deadmau5 favorites.

These dates are just part of deadmau5’s Lots Of Shows In A Row Tour, and I’m looking right now to see about Seattle tickets. They are no sold out. Check tomorrow though, as we might be lucky and more tickets will be released? Maybe? Just maybe? And, if you have tickets, have a blast.
