Cameron Esposito @ the Neptune – 10/14/18
Show Review & Photos by Lisa Hagen Glynn
Cameron Esposito packed the Neptune Theatre on October 14th, 2018 for an evening of edgy, LGBTQ-centric standup comedy. Esposito’s tour supports her recent special, Rape Jokes, which benefits sexual-assault hotline RAINN .

Esposito joked that the audience overrepresented people who—like her—identify as visibly Queer or lazy-eyed. She appeared with her signature asymmetrical haircut, rainbow-flag lapel pin, and second-favorite motorcycle jacket. Esposito pulled off the difficult comedic balance of delivering bluntly irreverent observations about her own community without overstepping into offense.
Other topics included the guilty pleasure of a pilfered gas-station snack, her initiation to drinking within a Catholic upbringing, and how to distribute intimate community property after a breakup. In a genuine aside, Esposito expressed sadness about her recent separation from fellow comic Rhea Butcher, and then invited the audience to share what they had learned from their own romantic breakups. Only in the final punchline did Esposito reveal the meaning of her tour’s title, Person of Consequence. (Tip: If you can’t attend the show, this bit is also included in Rape Jokes.)
Seattle comic Andy Iwancio opened with a compelling and hilarious set about her experiences as a transwoman. Nikki Neuen, a representative of local nonprofit, Gender Diversity, spoke in support of transgender children and their families.

Cool Cover: Maisie Peters‘ “Stay Young”
Details: Brighton, England’s Maisie Peters poses on this cover with an orange tabby. I love her belt too. Photographed by Dan Curwin, who has snapped stars such as Lorde, Peters looks so calm with that kitty.

Coin @ the Showbox – 3/14; Coin Returns to the Showbox Sat. 2/23

The super rad band Coin, from Nashville, Tennessee, played the Showbox last March. And, guess what? Coin returns to the venue on Saturday, February 23rd. There’s so much good to say about this trio, who plan to release its third album next year. These photos count as real history: bassist, Zachary Duke, who is in these photos, is no longer in the band. Don’t worry though, Coin is a total winner – live or recorded.
