On Saturday night, DJ Paul van Dyk will headline Showbox SoDo. While fans wait for the December 7th release of his latest album, Music Rescues Me, I’m guessing the German artist should play a few tracks from it to give them a taste. By the way, I love that title. Music does have that power. Van Dyk also just said that, “Music has the power to clear your head, heal your heart and lift your spirits. It’s a remarkable, limitless force in our lives and unites us with people from around the world.” His sounds are distinctive in the trance genre, gorgeous and fulfilling. Don’t believe me immediately? Well, van Dyk is one of the biggest names in electronic music, having been nominated for – and winning – many awards from loads of awarders.

Additional details and tickets are here. The show is 18+.

Khruangbin

Texan trio Khruangbin, who combine psychedelic with funk, make an appearance in Seattle as headliners at the Moore on Friday, November 16th. Predominantly an instrumental group, Khruangbin released two EPs before their 2015 debut, The Universe Smiles Upon You. Their second release, Con Todo El Mundo, came out this year on the Dead Oceans label. Drawing on many world sounds – also bringing in electronic influences – Khruangbin named themselves after the Thai word for airplane. And I need to say a big thank you to the band for recording a Christmas single, “Christmas Time Is Here.” You can check that out right here.

The Moore has a special event page for the show’s tickets. All ages.

Cherry Poppin’ Daddies will appear at Seattle’s Jazz Alley on Tuesday, November 13th, Wednesday, November 14th and Thursday, November 15th. The Oregon swing/ska/punk band is celebrating the 20th anniversary of their smashing compilation album, Zoot Suit Riot, which got remixed and remastered last year. Cool! Something that really excites me about this group is how they combine so many different music styles, and they do it well. They perfectly describe their sound in this way on their Facebook: “Swing, Ska, Rock, Punk, I do what I want!” I wholeheartedly approve of that. Want more good news from the Daddies? They’ve got a new album slated for release soon called Bigger Life.

Head to Jazz Alley’s event page for tickets and more show details.
