It was good to have the English pop/jazz singer-songwriter Jamie Cullum back in Seattle. He apologized for being away for so long and commented that he was surprised by all the construction cranes downtown. He also mentioned previous shows at the Century Ballroom and Neumos that I attended in 2004. He’s now in his mid-thirties, but just as energetic as he was back then. Climbing onto and jumping off his piano, and running out into the audience are still his trademarks.

Jamie brought his own 3-member band (guitar, drums, bass) and was also accompanied by a 12-member brass band consisting of talented Seattle musicians. He started off with several songs from his new album, Interlude, which consists of jazz covers and played one of my favorites, “All At Sea,” about halfway through the set.

There was more interaction with the audience than you typically see at a show. At one point he had someone come onstage to play a boogie beat in G and also had the crowd sing three different parts of a song while he sang a fourth. There was also the occasional scream of “I Love you Jamie.” The two-hour show was followed by a solo encore, including one song off-mic, which filled the hushed theater.
