Former Gossip Girl actress-turned-songstress Leighton Meester, played at Showbox at the Market last week in support of her new debut album, Heartstrings, whose title track opened the show. Leighton was backed by the 5-member Check in the Dark that included Jeff Trott, who produced the album with her. “I love you Leighton” and “You’re beautiful” were the most common shout-outs between songs. Leighton’s strong finish in her encore song “Don’t Stop” by Fleetwood Mac, gave Christine McVie a run for the money. Local duo, Duke Evers – Josh Starkel (lead guitar/vocals) and Kyle Veazey (drums/vocals) – opened.
