Black Label Society’s Doom Trooping Over North America tour made its way to Seattle’s s Showbox SoDo on October 7th. The heavy metal quartet is set to release its 11th album, Doom Crew Inc. on November 26th, its first since 2018’s Grimmest Hits. The video is already out for lead track, “Set You Free”. Doom Trooping Over North America tour includes Florida death metal band Obituary, as opener.
The pop/soul band Lawrence, fronted by siblings Clyde and Gracie Lawrence, performed at a sold-out show at the Neptune Theatre in Seattle. Backed by a six-member band in matching outfits, their nationwide Hotel TV Tour is off to a great start. Singer-songwriter Rachel Mazer opened.
Making her Seattle debut, Lorelei Marcell performed for a very enthusiastic audience at The Funhouse over the weekend. She’s on a nationwide tour, opening for Transviolet. The LA-based pop singer’s set included songs from her recently released self-titled EP.
Canadian country singer-songwriter, MacKenzie Porter performed at the Showbox during a tour stop with Jordan Davis. The Juno-nominated, multi-instrumentalist has also appeared in numerous films and television productions. Be sure to check out her hit with Dustin Lynch, “Thinking ‘Bout You.”
Japanese Breakfast returned to the Seattle area for three sold-out nights at the Neptune Theatre. The shoegaze-inspired indie-rock band had played the inaugural THING festival in Port Townsend in 2019.
The tour supports their critically acclaimed 2021 album, Jubilee. The record is one of many exceptional accomplishments this year for front woman Michelle Zauner: She also released a New York Times bestselling book, a major video-game soundtrack, and a self-directed music video.
Japanese Breakfast’s set included most of Jubilee, some favorites from Psychopomp (2016)and Soft Sounds from Another Planet (2017), and even Zauner’s video-game single “Glider.” Zauner switched between vocals, guitar, keys, and a gong.
Emerging Toronto artist Luna Li opened with a set of dreamy rock, and introduced her new butterfly guitar. Li, like Zauner, identifies as half-Korean. She paused to acknowledge the importance of representation onstage.
Japanese Breakfast continues their U.S. tour through November. A European tour is scheduled for spring 2022.
