Show Review & Photos: Tool @ KeyArena

Tool played the KeyArena on Saturday night. It was just as mind-blowing as seeing them in 1994 when I was first graced with their unique mix of metal, noise, and math rock. Add a serious psychedelic dose of visuals, and even KeyArena couldn’t keep this foursome from creating an intimate and mind-blowing set. The vast majority of the crowd only knew their more recent work, which is sad. Some of Tool’s most impressive and pioneering pieces existed before the invention of advance delay petals, vocal effects and light shows. Nonetheless most audience members were standing and banging heads throughout the sold-out set. . .I would have loved to have heard anything off Opiate, or more of their earlier raw sound, but it was a show worth experiencing. After seeing other rock giants like Metallica, Korn, Kiss, and the Deftones fail at holding crowds in such large venues, it was a true treat and testament to their timeliness to witness something this captivating and epic. . .so go Tool. . .Still rocking after 20+ years.

Show Preview: Lords of Acid & My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult @ Studio Seven, Tues. 7/13

Lords of Acid and My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult kick off their Sextreme Ball 2010 tour at Seattle’s Studio Seven on Tuesday, July 13th. As an extra special treat, the great Praga Khan will also appear with Lords of Acid. This is a huge deal for electronic fans. I don’t think Lords of Acid has been to Seattle before, and to include original member Praga Khan, well, it’s a pinch me moment. I have loved Lords of Acid and Praga Khan since I first heard them. Thrill Kill Kult is of course absolutely awesome too.

Photos and Review: The Melvins @ The ShowBox

Melvins

You may be dismayed to see three reviews of The Melvins but don’t be. They were so full of energy that it took three photographers to capture it. They took the stage like Attila The Hun took Rome. With Buzz Osborne (lead guitar) and Jarred Warren (Bass) leading the way, the two drummers (Dale Crover and Coady Willis) kept the crowd mesmerized with their perfect timing. I had never see The Melvins play before but I knew as soon as they started that I wasn’t going home until the end.

The Melvins play the Crocodile on September 25th. Do what it takes to see that show.
