Show Review & Photos: the Drums @ Neumos

The Drums. The Drums. The Drums. I will not forget this band. Stylized and elegant in performance and sound, I was pleasantly shocked by their set the other week at Neumos. You would think they were a British band and not from Brooklyn (yes, check their MySpace and see their influences: Orange Juice, the Smiths, Joy Division) – and each band member focused a very intense personality in his own space. Singer Jonathan Pierce capered and swept along the stage, swinging his mic cord, and guitarist Jacob Graham bowed, danced and played much like a ballet dancer. Right on. I highly recommend their CD, the Drums. There was not misstep on the set list.

Photos: Surfer Blood & the Dewars @ Neumos

Floridians Surfer Blood and the Dewars opened for the Drums at Neumos earlier this month. I’ll have photos of the Drums up soon, but I wanted to post the two Florida bands together. They both put on such enjoyable shows and I particularly think myself fortunate to have seen them together. I actually listen to these bands’ CDs and am glad Surfer Blood brought the Dewars with them so that I, and the other audience members, could be introduced to something this special.

Photos: Deadmau5 @ the Paramount

We’ve got more photos of the mouse, the shadows of the mouse, people enjoying the mouse . . . Deadmau5 that is. These pix come from Jackie Canchola, who got some fine aerial shots as well as atmospheric shadow pix. I love that we’re able to showcase Canchola’s work alongside Suzi Pratt‘s work – they do such wonderful jobs of capturing live shows.

Photos: Deadmau5 and Die Antwoord @ the Paramount

Last week, Joel Thomas Zimmerman, better known as Deadmau5, brought his electronic/progressive house music to Seattle, eliciting a raging dance party within the Paramount.  Deadmau5 put on a flashy light show that flowed perfectly with his bumping beats.  Truly, a live Deadmau5 show is all about the dancing experience and getting decked out in appropriate garb, including fan-made mouse heads imitating that of Deadmau5.  Opening for Deadmau5 was Die Antwoord, a South African hip-hop group that put on a very attitude-driven show that left most of the audience stunned, yet engaged with the group’s spunky “in your face” live routine.  Please enjoy photos from the show below!  More photos available here.
