Rising 16-year-old New Zealand singer Lorde (born Ella Yelich-O’Connor) headlined during the Decibel Festival at the Showbox at the Market in support of her debut album, Pure Heroine, which was released on September 30. “Royals,” the hit single, was recently #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. What a talented performer! I made the claim after her show that she’d never be back in Seattle at such a small venue. I proved myself right today when it was announced that she’d be back in town at the 17,450 seat KeyArena for the Deck The Hall Ball on December 3.

Mates of State return to Seattle for a show with Nada Surf on November 7th. That show will celebrate their record label Barsuk’s 15th anniversary.

Photos: Little Boots @ Neumos

English electropop singer-songwriter Little Boots (aka Victoria Hesketh) was the headliner at Neumos on Friday, as part of the 5-day Decibel Festival which is celebrating its 10th year in Seattle. Little Boots was wrapping up her North American tour in support of her second studio album, Nocturnes, released in May. It was a long show with three openers – MNDR, Young Galaxy and Light Asylum.

Canadian singer/songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen wrapped up her headlining summer tour at the Washington State Fair in Puyallup on Friday. The 27-year-old Juno Award winner continues to support her sophomore album, Kiss, which was released last year. It debuted at #6 on The Billboard 200 and #5 on the Canadian Albums chart. Jepsen earned two Grammy nominations for the album and took home two Juno Awards — one for Album of the Year and another for Pop Album of the Year.
