On Tuesday evening at the Paramount, there was more green in any one place besides a St. Patrick’s Day parade or perhaps a bar on St. Patrick’s Day. Green shoelaces, green hair accessories, green pants, green shoes . . . green Flogging Molly shirts, naturally!. The Los Angeles septet Flogging Molly, specializing in Celtic punk, headlined the evening and had support from Mariachi El Bronx and Donots (we’ll have Donots coverage up shortly). Flogging Molly continues touring with stops in Germany this August. All photos by Joshua Daniels:
Photos: Great Big Sea @ Moore Theater
Great Big Sea, the folk-rockers from Newfoundland, really got the crowd going at the Moore Theater last week as everyone stood for nearly the complete show. It’s their 20th anniversary tour, hence the XX backdrop. Founding members include Alan Doyle (vocals, guitar, banjo), Séan McCann (vocals, bodhrán, guitar, whistle) and Bob Hallett (vocals, fiddle, accordion, mandolin, concertina, bouzouki, whistle). Murray Foster (bass, vocals) and Kris MacFarlane (drums, vocals) round out the band.

Indie rockers Passion Pit and Matt & Kim sold out the Paramount Theater this past week. Fronted by Michael Angelakos (lead vocals, keyboards), the five-member Passion Pit hails from Cambridge, MA and all members attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Rounding out the band were Ian Hultquist (keyboards, guitar), Xander Singh (synthesizer), Jeff Apruzzese (bass, synth bass), and Nate Donmoyer (drums). I’ll likely catch them again next week at SXSW. For the remainder of March Matt & Kim have dates in Arizona and Florida.
Photos: Sound Off! 2013 Finals
Did your favorite win the Sound Off! 2013 Finals? If so, that favorite was Dave B., a hip-hop artist from Seattle. Nabbing second place was Puyallup’s SHEBEAR and taking third place was the Fame Riot, a Tacoma-based glam duo – one of them had Dance Tax Free written across his chest, protesting the proposed dance tax. Fourth place went to Bothell’s As It Starts. Congratulations to the bands for making it into the finals!! All photos by Simon Krane:
Photos: Carrie Rodriguez @ The Triple Door
Carrie Rodriguez recently opened for Ari Hest at the Triple Door in Seattle. She’s touring with Luke Jacobs in support of her latest release, Give Me All You Got. I’ll have the pleasure of seeing Carrie again in a few weeks at SXSW, held in her hometown of Austin, TX.
