Details: Kongos, South African- born brothers Johnny Kongos, Dylan Kongos, Daniel Kongos and Jesse Kongos, headlined the Showbox in Seattle on May 14, 2017. The truly international band – they’re Greek and Mexican – who have lived in London, South Africa and America, Kongos released their third album, Egomaniac, last year. We’re already hungry for more. They play a distinctive mix of rock and kwaito, and continually impress. And thank you, Kongos, for creating a really cool PINK vinyl of Egomaniac. Much love.

The Moody Blues are on tour in support of the 50th anniversary of their first album, Days Of Future Passed. The sold-out show was the first of two evenings at the Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery in Woodinville. The three original members – Justin Hayward, John Lodge and Graeme Edge – were joined by Norda Mullen, Julie Ragins, Alan Hewitt and Billy Ashbaugh. The show lasted well over two hours with a short intermission. Days Of Future Passed was played in its entirety during the second set. Memories!

SEE

Singer-songwriter SEE was only nineteen years old when she signed with Los Angeles label Blue Élan Records. Quickly after, the New York-based self-taught musician (guitar, drums, piano, bass) released her debut EP, Ties. Featuring her lovely voice, Ties introduces us to a powerful bunch of tunes. I especially like “Blue Await” and “She Cries.” You know what’s interesting about that and her songwriting abilities? “Potion” and “Green Line Killer” were the first released tunes. So, what I mean is, her entire EP could be singles. SEE’s also getting a name for herself in videos: “Green Line Killer,” which has her dressed as a pink fluffy monster, and the romantic “Potions,” which is just hitting the nearly 5.5 million views mark on YouTube.

The 1975‘s Mat Healy

I shouldn’t talk for everyone else at the 1975’s most recent Seattle show, but I will!: I suspect every person there had all kinds of awesome, excited shivers running down their spines. The 1975 created a loving (yes, they really did!) and super atmosphere where every person in the room was welcome to sing along and dance. No feelings of being an outsider here for anyone, although their fans are generally in the teenager-early 20s range. That’s fine. I will argue again and again that it’s the younger people who will find the great stuff first. And the 1975 has responded to that affection with two fabulous albums, live shows always worth catching (for example, lesser-known tracks such as”Lostmyhead” get symphonic takeoffs; singer/guitarist Mat Healy is an incredible front man; I swear the band’s music is its own magical life form), and some pretty rad videos. There are very few bands around now I call rock stars, but the 1975 are Rock Stars.
