Electronic DJ RL Grime took his Nova Tour to Seattle’s WaMu Theater on October, 13th. That was Friday the 13th if anyone missed that. RL Grime is set to release his new LP, Nova, this year. Present for Christmas? By the way, he just released a new track, “Era,” last week. Other cool news: Honolulu, Hawaii’s Graves and Miami, Florida’s GTA were the opening acts, with Graves joing RL Grime for all dates. Nice!
Show Preview:Yelle @ the Crocodile, Tues. 10/24 ~Dagmar Yelle‘s Yelle
Tuesday, October 24th is day one of Yelle’s Club Party Tour‘s West Coast dates! The French duo’s heading straight down from Vancouver, Canada tonight or Tuesday, and we’re looking forward to them playing the Crocodile.
Yelle, made up of singer Yelle and GrandMarnier, have released three albums and numerous EPs since 2007. After their 2007 debut Pop Up, they’ve also worked many artists, including Robyn, Katy Perry and Crookers. Yelle fans have been very lucky in being able to see the band perform live, with their French songs crossing over to non-French speaking countries. It’s so important to learn about the world’s cultures, and it’s just all that much better when we can do this by joining languages with cool electro sounds, right? This year, Yelle released “Romeo,” which explains exactly what listening to Yelle is like: on est bien/on est haut/on est infiniment bien/on est infiniment beau.
TORRES, fronted by Mackenzie Scott, recently played at Neumos on Capitol Hill in downtown Seattle. The show was near the front end of her Three Futures album release tour covering both North America and Europe. Paris-born, Philadelphia-based Paloma Gil and Lou Hayat of The Dove & The Wolf opened.
A springtime visit from Two Door Cinema Club was hosted by Showbox SoDo. The Northern Ireland trio is always a must-see and must-cover band for us at Back Beat Seattle, and we thank them again for being so awesome. The group just completed another US tour, but we could always do with more Two Door Cinema Club. Thanks, photographer Alex Crick, for the lovely shots of the guys. And now, part 14 of our Memory Lane Series.
Band:Tove Lo Song: “Disco Tits” Why You Want To Watch: Tove Lo’s video for “Disco Tits” features a puppet boyfriend. That little puppet is super cute, and I love the Swedish singer-songwriter Tove Lo, so of course I had to check this one out immediately. It’s brilliant. Directed by fellow Swede, Tim Erem, Tove Lo admits of it on Facebook: you say I’m an iconic bitch cause I did some puppet sex yah. Now, find out what happens after she asks the puppet, “If you could pick any flavor once, would you still choose vanilla?”
