What a great opportunity this is to see Lebanese electronic artist Yasmine Hamdan at the Crocodile tomorrow night, Thursday November 9th. Seattle is just one of her three West Coast United States dates (along with San Francisco and Los Angeles)! Hamdan, who gained icon status in the band Soapkills, branched out as a solo artist with 2013’s Ya Nass; she’s returned this year by giving fans Al Jamilat. Now based in Paris, Hamdan’s emerged as a powerful voice in world music – and a female voice, at that – also receiving a 2014 Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song for “Hal,” which appeared in Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive. She’s using her presence and sultry voice to call attention to many important issues, describing her themes as “relationships, manipulation, self-reflection, self-mocking, deception, lust, sin, fear, love and rebellion.”
