THE BRITISH ARE COMING. . . AND THE IRISH ARE COMING!

That was the general mood of the Showbox Sodo on August 1, 2016, in the best of ways. The crowd was abuzz for the upcoming punk rock show featuring London’s Frank Turner and the jolly motley crew that is Flogging Molly.

Frank Turner was a tour de force in positive punk rock from the first minute he came on stage. He was a boundless ball of energy, bouncing around and leaving it all on the stage throughout his 50-minute performance. He may come at you aggressively with his persona, but his lyrics are all about the glory of life and rock and roll (For examples listen to “I Still Believe,” “The Next Storm,” and the “The Ballad Of Me And My Friends.” “Punk rock is all about community,” Turner told the crowd. He certainly knows how to bring them together.

The anticipation leading up to the booming Celtic rock that Flogging Molly brings to the stage was palpable. Fans of all ages came to the show seeking a refuge in the pit, and being the seasoned rockers they are, the band much obliged. Belting out hits such as “Drunken Lullabies” and “If I Ever Leave This World Alive,” coupled with political anthems “What’s Left of the Flag” and “Black Friday Rule,” it was a classic set from one of today’s best touring bands. Throughout the years, it has become evident that fun comes first for the band that started at Molly Malone’s, and the same holds true now.
