Margaret Cho

Comedian Margaret Cho shaved her head! Okay, she didn’t shave her head during her show in Seattle this weekend but, she did perform a song in the tradition of Sinéad O’Connor. Cho revealed her new look after removing her wig, tearing a photo of the Pope in two, and performing the song (Cho’s own!!) “Fat Pussy.” It turns out Cho has a lovely voice. And a lovely bare head!

The Pope, Bill Cosby, politics and Cho’s fat pussy, were just a few topics Cho covered at the Moore on Saturday night. I enjoyed the authenticity of Cho’s comedy. She will go after anyone who’s a hypocrite, or anyone who’s worth taking a hard look at. . . or anyone who’s just terrible. She called out Bill Cosby, Woody Allen and Jian Ghomeshi, which was refreshing in a peculiar way. While many might give them the benefit of doubt, or still even respect actors who work with Allen (I mean, why do A-listers work with him still???), Cho made some damn good jokes about these creeps. You get the idea that if you’re easily offended, a Cho comedy show might not be for you. But if you’re open-minded, and appreciate her creative way of dealing with her internet trolls and the asshats who broke into her house, for example, you’re in a happy place with her.

Cho, very well received in Seattle, is a real intellectual thinker. Why is that funny? Shouldn’t that not be funny at all? Somehow Cho makes her serious commentary on life funny. She’ll take serious topics, such as abortion, molestation, rape, religion, and get an audience laughing. With Cho, I get the feeling comedy saves lives.

  1. Thank you Miss Cho for your candid humor….I was 7 when I was raped in a place we should all be safe – CHURCH. I’m sorry for your loss because it us a loss. I too make people laugh to deal with the pain inside? I will be 60 in December and I thank you for speaking out.
