The West, one of Seattle’s best and exciting bands, headlines the Crocodile tomorrow night to celebrate the release of their latest, Never the Place! They’re danceable, clever synth-disco and I love them. Fans actually dance to their songs at the West’s shows, and each band member is really fun to watch:
1. Singer/keys-synth-player: Adrienne Clark, who will probably jump out at a viewer first with her shock of red hair, dance moves and slinky figure.
2. Singer/keys-synth-player: Anthony Darnell, with focused energy and true power.
3. Guitarist: Reed Griffin and his retro guitar. A rocking sartorial presence; sweet, sweet guitar playing.
4. Bob Husak: One of the best damn drummers you will ever see.
5.Jon Swihart: A poised and über-talented bassist.
The combined vocals of Clark and Darnell remind me of Scissor Sisters (I don’t think I can even say anything that could be nicer or a more positive, higher compliment from me than that). When I saw their Columbia City Theater show a while ago I was reminded what a fantastic band this is, and their second album, Never The Place, will make your mind and body say, “DAMN!” and “DAMN!” again. You got the boogie fever? Let the West share that with you.
