American rock artist John Mellencamp brought his “No Better Than This Tour” to Seattle’s McCaw Hall on Wednesday, April 12th. Normally seen in arenas and amphitheaters, Mellencamp set out on the road to play in intimate theater settings. The first hour of the show consisted of Mellencamp’s documentary “It’s About You,” showing him crossing America while recording along the way.
Opening the show with his hit, “Authority Song,” Mellencamp captured the crowd. The early part of the show was devoted to supporting his current album, No Better Than This.
The second half of his show brought the crowd to its feet with songs such as “Jack and Diane,” “Small Town,” “Pink Houses” and “R.O.C.K in the U.S.A.,” which were the crowd-pleasers of the night. His band sounded like a tight-knit group, performing with energy throughout the night that stayed with them to the final songs.
Highlights of the night were “Small Town” done solo and acoustic until the very end, and “R.O.C.K in the U.S.A.” which took the energy of the whole night into one powerful ending.
